Precious metals are measured in troy weight. 12 ounces to the pound. 1 ounce of gold=79.27 ounces silver= equals 6 and a half+ pounds. (78 = 6.5)

And one cubic inch of gold equals about 147 cubic inches of silver. Something to think about when you're packing your bug-out bag -- assuming you'd rather carry metal than, oh, I don't know, food and water?

    I just didn't read bat guano did I ?

nah .. gonna go hide in another thread ...

My bugout bag contains many, many things. But no PMs. No value in those situations. I do have cash in it though. But alas, no bat guano either.

Yes, that's a good reminder. It's helpful to remember this when checking the weight of your precious metals on a regular scale. Your "ounce" will probably weigh something like 1.1 ounces, so it's better to weigh grams and get 31 for clarity.

31.1 grams to the troy ounce. It's slightly off, but that is the number that is used.
Grains and pennyweights are more accurate.
20 pennyweights to the troy ounce. 24 grains in 1 pennyweight. 480 grains in 1 troy ounce. 5760 grains in 1 troy pound.
Avoirdupois weight (16 ounces to the pound) 437.5 grains in one ounce. 7000 grains in one pound.

Bat Guana is a good thing. In the early days it was used to make gun powder. IMG_0249.JPG

Is that why all British pilots have gold sovereigns sewn into their flight suits? Why don't they use salami, or pound notes?

Military pilots would fly over distant foreign territories. Thus a bribe that would have a high visual appearance is needed where language may not assist in extreme situations.

I guess I should do the same in case Canada invades.

Gold is the universal currency, whether there is electricity or not.

If only one of the two goes up in price, it would seem to be a good time to trade that one for the other one. In that most basic sense, the gold-silver ratio woo-wooness actually makes a little sense. However, I would only want to trade silver for gold. Never the other way around.

But, which weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?

A pound of feathers weighs more because it is 7000 grains.
A pound of gold weighs 5760 grains.
And, an ounce of gold weighs more since it is 480 grains,
and an ounce of feathers weighs 437.5 grains.
