Look up my review on HSN-Coin Collector with Mike Meezak if you have a few minutes. A fun read!

I have an interest in Mike Meezak and tried to use the search feature to find this thread. I put Meezaks name in the search bar and your name in the “posted by” box. I am coming up empty. Help an old analog minded guy out and tell me what I am doing wrong.

I believe he spells it Mezack.

I found the write up and it is so spot on. I watch Little television but do watch the History station in bed weekends. I can always be assured of being woke up at 4am with his over the top “used car salesman” schtick. The man is a slick salesman for sure.

Should be under "Coins - As Seen on TV". HSN - The Vault. Wrote it sometime last year along with AAN-TV and RCTV. AVC Collectible Coins, The Coin Vault, and Adam's Collectible Coins Network coming down the road. Hope you enjoy!

Glad you found it! Mike gives Used Car Salesman a bad name. He splits his time between CSN which is on History Channel at early morning times, and HSN. Even the very same coins are sold on both, but I'm not sure of any CSN Ownership interest. He is truly nauseating and plays fast and loose with the truth. But still, I watch. Thanks for the follow-up!

Why do you think the TV peddlers are always promoting graded bullion coins and stuff that is often still available from the Mint?

Quantity. They couldn’t possibly make a living trying to sell low population coins simply because there are not enough of them.

I suppose one could say that graded ASEs have upped the “quality” of the TV salesmen. Remember the days when their staples were colorized coins, gold-plated state quarters and polished to death Peace dollars?

Despite the disbelief of others, Low pop features on Coin TV do exist, and the prices aren't crazy. Again, it may be a part of the 1% I look for but if you quickly do your research on the coin being offered, it can pay off. It's not a regular thing on Coin TV, but occasionally they are there. I know, because I look out for them, and if the price is right, I do at times buy them....as a dealer. And you're spot on when talking NGC/PCGS MS70 American Silver Eagles that are offered out by Coin TV. Bulk buying and grading by Coin TV makes these coins competitive with other sellers whether they be online or your local coin store. They count on the high quantity and low margins to make it work for them. Many in the coin community hate this, but it comes down to competition. And they make no secret of their disdained opinion of Coin TV, partly for this reason. I remain impartial when viewing Coin TV as a whole, and some have made their opinion of my write-ups a target for simply stating the pro's and cons of a given Coin TV Show/Network. Excellent point on what Coin TV was usually known for; gold plated State quarters, generic proof & mint sets, etc. Thanks for your perspective on Coin TV!

I don't believe his "hoard stories" for a minute. Not one of them.

There most certainly are true "hoard" stories, but it's usually safe to assume they're BS.

I was purely talking about TV peddlers. For example, I found a collector with a hoard of xxx, I was able to cherry pick the hoard and buy them at a great price, which allows me to pass the low prices on to you....

I understand there are hoards being found in the coin world, but when I hear a TV personality mention one, my BS detector goes up.

Fair enough and thanks for clarifying, but based upon saying "not one of them" it was also a fair assumption. :)

Yep. Agree. It's one of the reasons I took the time to clarify my comments. Thanks for pointing it out.

The worst TV example of a so-called hoard may have been the not-so-dearly departed ESN Direct’s “Seattle Hoard” of American Silver Eagles.

I wish I had taped their cock-and-bull story about obtaining green monster boxes from someone who had started buying them in 1986 and never opened them until now.

They offered an entire date set graded MS70 by IGS (a basement grading service they used) for $15,000.

There’s a thread around here somewhere started by somebody who admitted he fell for it.

I do believe Rick and Jack have many contacts in the industry, and coupled with the fact that they have offered St. Gaudens en mass, including the rarer dates/Mint marks in high grades, a Euro Hoard wouldn't surprise me. Many of his coins were nowhere to be found on eBay. Not that that's the only place to find an exact date/Mint-Mark, but it's a good place to look. Seems like every time I turn on RCTV, Rick is selling St. Gaudens, so he did find a bunch of them somewhere. But, anything is possible. I don't doubt the skepticism, as I question every thing they (RCTV) offer. Some gorgeous high-grade, low pop pieces however that I will likely only see on his show and not in-hand unless I hit the lottery!

Poor, uneducated SOB victim that didn't know any better. And there's more out there like him. That's why I write these reviews of Coin TV offerings. While remaining balanced and impartial, I hope I can prevent that next newer and/or aged collector from making the same costly mistake. BTW, I didn't know Mike even dealt with the plastic crap known as a IGS "graded" coins. Another new low! On HSN at least, he is married to Coins graded by ANACS and ICG. Which isn't that much of a step-up IMO. Thanks for the comment!

ICG is a huge step up but they don’t appear often on the show anymore. PCGS and NGC are starting to appear more though

Thank you for sharing your hate..I was in the navy for 4 1/5 years in the mid 1960's to protect haters like you who can only trash our service (yes not by my choice but I did not cry about it), so tired of you liberal bashers and your constant hate for anything you can not understand...seems your education is CNN..
