Plate coins are sometimes fun to collect, even though, you can sometimes find the same coin in a better condition for far less. That pedigree comes at a cost, but it is really cool to hold the same coin that passed through a timeless numismatic guru. @TIF and few other members have already shown their Dattari coins. So, I figured I'll post my recent acquisitions that are plate coins from Hendin. They are both similar coins, but with slight variations between them. Again, I got to blame @Deacon Ray, for his bad influence Ancient Judaea, Procuratorial: Valerius Gratus (15-26 CE) Æ Prutah, Jerusalem, RY 2 of Tiberius (Hendin 1333a; TJC 317; RPC 4959) Obv: IOY/ΛIA in two lines within wreath Rev: Upright palm branch; across field, L B Ancient Judaea, Procuratorial: Valerius Gratus (15-26 CE) Æ Prutah, Jerusalem, RY 2 of Tiberius (Hendin 1333b; TJC 317; RPC 4959) Obv: IOY/ΛIA blundered in two lines within wreath Rev: Upright palm branch; across field, L B So, go ahead and post your plate coins!

Those are gorgeous Judaeans, @Quant.Geek ! The coins from the period of Valerius Gratus are among my favorites. I have some slabbed and some not. Also Gratus was a character from Ben-Hur who got beaned with a roofing tile. He was the Roman Governor who sent Ben to the slave galleys and Ben's mother and sister to prison.

I am pretty sure I had that book as a teenager (late 60s)which I procured from Alex G.Malloy's booth at the White Plains coin show. He had or maybe still has an incredible collection of facing Heads. I had a little one, a hemidrachm from Rhodes with the Rose on the back. I let the book go along with my coins when I was in my twenties. I guess that is a common story here on CT. Collected as a youth and then returned as an elder gent. Cool coin btw Ed. As soon as I purchase a digital scanner for slides/negatives I will be able to post some of my original coins. I remember every one of them.
