If you want high returns then forget about silver. Just sit back and see where it is every 3 months or so. If you want high returns think cannabis. I've made 50% in the last 30 days buy buying cannabis stocks, including one which is up 250% in the last 7 trading days (4 cents to 14 cents).

My step son told me to buy into dispensaries here in NY I kinda thought any of the stock could be good but did not know where to start.

I have an IRA with TDAmeritrade. All cannabis stocks are going up right now so take your pick. The particular one I was referring to was VATE (bought on dec 19th at $0.04, now $0.1355). Also bough CBWTF on Oct 15th for $0.773, now $1.49). NXTTF (bought at $1.24 on Dec 19th, now $2.61). I have several others which are up more than 50% but also a few which are only up 20% or so. If you want to get in though do so soon as it won't last. In the early fall it was lithium was the big thing and I made about 25% in two months before it slowed down. It is still going up but not as slowly. With penny stocks you need to get in on the latest thing before everyone else gets in to make a killing and you have to buy several in each sector because you never know which one will succeed.

EDIT: I would not recommend penny stocks for someone who is just thinking of getting into the market. I think it takes some experience first. If you are thinking of getting back in then that is a different matter. I don't think that now is a good time to enter the markets as I think a big reversal has to some sometime soon, just not sure when. If you really want to earn money there over the next few years it seems like options is the place to be. I don't trade them yet but I am trying to learn how.

If you have a investment account search for stocks with the key word in the name. From there look at the daily news reports on those stocks and look for others mentioned. Compile a watch list of these in your portfolio (I have about 50 on cannabis) and then set alerts to catch them as they are start going up. The same will work for whatever the next big think is, but often to get in at the beginning you only have a small window.

I think I will try robinhood app to try the penny stocks since there are no fees and no minimums. Yea I never had stocks before but I am not going to risk much.

Never heard of it. Nor have I heard of a way of trading stocks with no fees.

No wonder I never heard of it. Seem like you have to have a smartphone to use it. It also seems very limited in functionality. For now I am happy with my $6.95 trades on TDAmeritrade, which provides me with more than what I need to my purposes. My commissions total a fraction of one percent of my total investment gains.

Do you think the price of silver usually goes up this time of year because of all the mints producing the new coinage? And using more product, Or do they stock up last july for all the 2018 demands?

I don't know how it is in the PM market, but I know in the oil and gas market that manufacturing customers have term contracts on a certain price for a certain quantity. Thus moving "spot" prices are not part of the equation.

For instance, we have a 3 year discounted contract on Natural Gas. So our million cubic foot price is fixed for 3 years that feed our electrical generating turbines. So the price does not move whether NatGas/LNG spot prices move up or down.

I assume contracts like that exist for large manufacturers such as the USMint and 3rd party providers.

Spread the priceline over 12 mos. and there is no change. The silver market is still flat and without change.

All the big ones hedge in the paper market well in advance so it shouldn't really make a difference.

CoinCorgi Tell your dog I said hi!

    Ahem
    Bought 20 shares @ $14.279/share + $4.95 commission = $290.53
    etc.
    today those 20 shares are @ $23.6374/share = $472.75 current value
    etc.

Presumably you should include subtract $4.95 commission that he'll be hit with when he actually sells.

$4.95 is standard commission at Charles Schwab right now. About half of what it was earlier this year I think.

Basically, I bought shares of the three top mj companies (all Canadian, but trade on the NASDAQ) I paid a 4.95 commission on each buy, so for less than $1000, I positioned myself for some serious capital growth - StevieB had expressed an interest in speculating in penny stocks of companies with prospects but no earnings history, unlike the big three above - Aphria is the most impressive company, so I bought 30 more shares yesterday @ 14.28 (not included above).
I attempted to copy and paste some lines of data from my brokerage account transactions page, then spent 1/2 hour of editing to make them look presentable here - the arithmetic is: 1374.77-879.08=495.69 gain in 30 days or +56.3%.
For less than $900, in a month, I did a lot better than 'investing' in silver, gold or blue chip stocks - StevieB stated that he's new to stock investing with a limited budget - my example was just a constructive suggestion for a sane investment with low buy-in and big upside - Canada goes legal later next year and I believe that Aphria, Canopy and Aurora will lead the way - penny stocks cost pennies for a reason - invest in larger companies with proven earnings and you will be on the right track :shame:
