I worked with the California Department of Forestry for many years and I worked with the inmate camp and we used to take the leftover food up into the woods to an area where we fed the Bears the Bears would come right up to our truck where we empty the trash cans you could almost touch him it was scary but really exciting to

We had an area where we used to take the Cubs of mothers had been killed and we had buckets where we would put food in and send it across to to them and they had no contact with humans but we would get them up to an age where they can fend for themselves and then the fishing game would come get them and take them up to an area where they would live out their lives but I got lots of photos of bears I got a picture one time of an old alpha bear in a fight with a younger bear trying to take over his regime I guess you would call it that young bear partially tore off one of the alpha bear's ears off. it was something to see I'm glad I had a telephoto lens I sure wouldn't want to be close to him I made a postcard of that old bear. Sold a lot of them around here. Beautiful but dangerous animals.

With all the talk of wildlife, I should say another favorite thing about fall for me is that's when my favorite insect comes out. While praying mantises are around all summer, I don't usually see them until late August, September and sometimes October. I have a gift for spotting them. I have spotted them on plants while riding by at full speed on my bike. The most recent one I found was yesterday, but here are two of my favorite pictures from a few years ago. Excellent photo.

I wonder if @spirityoda has a mantis to share with us, from his insect-themed coin collection.

Well, folks, it is now October in the Golden Isles of Georgia (*woohoo!*), so it is time to put the wraps on our September giveaway and draw some numbers!

Here are our September Giveaway Winners!

It took me exactly twenty spins with the random.org random number generator before I could come up with results that fit the criteria.

Since @Hiddendragon's "mantis" post just above this one was Post #103, I set the range for the random number generator from 1 to 103, and kept clicking and generating numbers until I found three that corresponded with someone's primary post on the topic and not my own posts nor anyone's secondary chat postings.

The random.org bot chose the winners, so I didn't have to play favorites based on the actual content of all these excellent posts.

    Here were the results.

    *drumroll*

    September2017GiveawayWinners.png

@Swan wins first place, for Post# 91. This means Swan is the first who gets to choose one of the three prizes offered.

@Moundsvillemike75 won second place, for Post# 80. This means Moundsvillemike75 gets to choose one of the three prizes offered, after Swan has chosen.

@coin_nut won third place, for Post# 42. (I loved the photo.) This means coin_nut will get whatever is left after Swan and Moundsvillemike75 have picked their prizes.

Thanks for playing, everyone, and congratulations to our September winners!

I have a fun idea for a theme for October's giveaway, which should be launched quite soon, so watch this forum!* :)

(*I've chosen to do my monthly giveaways on the World Coins forum rather than the Contests forum, at least when my prizes happen to be World coins, which will be the case most of the time.)

And here again are the prizes.

    • A 2001-S USA Rhode Island Statehood quarter, silver proof, PCGS PR69 DCAM. This was given to me by @Nathan401. (He is OK with me "regifting" it.) *In fact, he could have won it back! His post was one of the first ones the random number generator chose, but in that post he said he did not want to enter the giveaway.

    • A 1974 Bahamian 2-dollar coin, Uncirculated specimen strike, in the original Franklin Mint packaging. At 40mm, it is quite a large coin. I gave one of these away in last month's giveaway.

    • A proof 1987 Canadian "Loon" dollar in the original Royal Canadian Mint packaging, including the original case and cardboard outer sleeve. @@Paddy54won one of these in last month's giveaway but told me to keep it and put it in this month's giveaway.

Congratulations to the winners and to Lordmarcorvan for the contest.I think he is creating more interest in coin collecting than the mint(on a smaller scale,I'll agree). Maybe they should take a lesson from him. lol. Thanks for all the memories and for the pictures and stories from all the members. They were great.

Swan A millon dollars short of being a millionaire

I chose the Rhode Island Quarter.
I would like to thank Lordmarcorvan and @Nathan401 who donated the coin for their generousness. His contest are always fun and not only promote coin collecting, but make it a coin collecting community. It was fun to read everyones favorite moments.

Congratulations to the very lucky winners of such beautiful coins! The generosity of lordmarcovan is exceptional in every way. The thought, variety of coins, and theme are outstanding amungst all other giveaways. It was a very interesting contest with many stories I won't soon forget.

Your new RI proof silver Quarter features the Newport Bridge, now called the Pell Bridge after the late Senator Claiborne Pell. It will cost you $4 to drive over ( $2 per axle, no pedestrians or bicycles permitted ). There are many beautiful beaches and impressive mansions in Newport, and plenty of shopping, if that's your thing. My work takes me over this bridge often, and the view is incredible!

PS - regardless of how the two remaining winners choose, there may be some versatility here. I will have to check my safe deposit boxes to be sure, but I think I have a few multiples of both the 1974 Bahamian $2 coins and the 1987 proof Loonies, so either of the two of you may get to choose either type as you prefer.

I'd also like to add, this Quarter is a Dan Carr design, for those that follow his work.

And since you were talking about hungry boar bear. Here's one I walked up on just at dark about 4 weeks ago. He was apx 3 foot tall at the shoulders, and 25 paces away. We looked at each other for about a minute.
