Question about "haze" on silver coins.

I am new to the forum and have a question about my Canadian Maple Leaf silver coins. I opened up one of the airtites and notice that there is some kind of "haze" on all of my Canadian coins. They are never handled and haven't been out of the airtites since I bought them.

Is that a common thing with the coins. My other coins don't have that issue. I have posted a picture of one of the coins you can see it below her chin. I tried wiping it off just too see if it is something else, but it won't wipe off.

Any clues to what the problem could be?

First, welcome to the neighborhood @David Carlson !

You should never try to use any sort of material to wipe a coin. It can leave hairlines, especially on proof coins. This only reduces the value of the coin. Haze can manifest itself on almost any coin if it is stored in a humid environment. I'm not suggesting that you did, but you can't guarantee that a previous owner didn't. If you can't remove the haze with 100% pure acetone, then I would just leave them alone.

Sure wish "twitter" people would take their "@" stuff somewhere else.

What's that supposed to mean? The @ thingy is a great way to get people knowledgeable on the subject into the thread.

It's common for maples. MS 70 may get some off but if its milk spotting I don't know of a way to remove it that always works. ASEs have had that problem in recent years as well

I agree. I love being able to tag people on this site. Very useful. Oh and by the way I don't use twitter never have...or Facebook for that matter.

Now for the OP's coin. I have had this problem as well. Sometimes acetone will take it off. but acetone can do funny things to proof like surfaces sometimes which Canadian coins have a lot of.

I agree with baseball21, MS70 is probably your best bet. It is fairly easy to use, just follow directions. But this may not clear it all the way up. You might have to settle with spotting.

I like the @ thingy. Great tool. Beats the heck out of sending a PM.

I would try acetone and stop there. It helps sometimes but not very often for me.

As far as I know, the @ before a member's name just means that they will be notified that someone tagged them. Has nothing at all to do with Twitter (I think that is a #, but I've never used it). See @u812?

Some people say a quick (0.5 sec) dip in eZest will help.

Does the haze devalue the coin?

The idiot has been following me around the neighborhood, inserting his half-cent worth and completely ignoring the scope of each thread. Just ignore him, guys!
