Was looking at adding some ASE,S to my silver portfolio and noticed the cheapest
i could find was about $7 over spot in comparison to a generic round in which i can
get for less then a dollar, my question is when you compare apples to apples a standard
ASE (nothing special just a common year) to a generic round can you recover the premium over spot that the ASE is getting ?

$7 over spot? That doesn't sound right.

$7 seems a bit much, the mints authorized distributors pay +$2 over spot price I believe. And while you can usually sell ASE's for a bit over spot and recover some premium I don't think you'd be able to get $7 over spot.

Govmint has $19.50 an ASE. $7 over spot is a slap in the face. You should be able to get them from $2.50-$3.00 a coin if you do your homework.

If a local shop can't do better than $7 over spot, it ought to get out of the bullion coin business.

I would not pay $7 over.

ASE vs generic bullion rounds is an apples to oranges comparison. There is a generic market for most date ASEs but even on the bullion ones dates can matter. Many places will charge more for the early dates and 1996 is usually pricey as well. They have to pass through at least one seller before they hit the market and often times it is at least two.

Would you recover a 7 dollar premium right away walking into a random shop no, but there are ways to sell them that net over spot. If they are charging 7 over they may be paying 3 over when they buy them, if they buy under spot with that type of premium well I would find a new source

You should be able to find $3-4$ over spot at any given time for ASE. I wouldn't expect to recover the whole premium at sale time. Maybe $1-$2 over spot. As always with PMs, these numbers are "maybes" . It's a very volatile market.

It you are not in a hurry you can find them for less.
I just bought some on 5/9 for $2.19 over spot.

Even right now UniversalCoin has them for $19.41 Check/Cash price and $20.19 Credit. But check ProvidentMetals, APMEX, UniversalCoin and a couple others I can't recall of the top of my head.

Be careful of shipping prices. Some places charge shipping no matter what. Others require at least $100 total for free shipping. Shipping prices can increase your individual acquisition costs by a proportion of that amount.

There is also the buying in bulk (anything over 1 coin) which helps. If you need more than 1 shop around, or find another collector and pool your resources. Even buying as few as 5 will often find a little break point in price. With the drop in silver prices, recovering the premium is less of an issue today than it was a month ago because silver will fluctuate and this is a nice little dip. Good luck and good hunting for a bargain.

Looking at buying a tube of 20, but i think my local coin shop is a bit high :(
Regardless ASE,S carry a bit of a premium so just wanted to know if they
were worth it over the rounds and if you could get that back ?
