I planted 20oz rolls of silver all over my property with exact measurements to be able to find each roll. Some of the landmarks are gone and I lost the map. My detector uses C cell batteries and I can't afford the price of new ones. I don't know what to do. I really messed up. I thought silver would be my answer to the bad times in the future. I'm just a wreck over this whole thing.
Don't worry. If you are so careless and forgetful then you probably would not have been able to take advantage of all that silver anyway.
It's believed that a civilized society having your stated mentality isn't one of desirability, and will destroy itself. We of a defensive mentality will try to watch, and enjoy the simple pleasures of trying to locate our buried coins, or view those found. There are others who have an interest in participation to destroy your seemingly ideal world: https://www.naij.com/1104637-osama-bin-ladens-son-threatens-us-fathers-death.html
To whom was this addressed? It certainly make no sense to me and I don't have a clue what you are trying to say.
I believe you'll find my post preceded by: FryDaddyJr said: I'll concur with your self-evaluation that you may be "clue-less", as we all may be occasionally. JMHO
Interesting. I did not see that. Apparently when someone is on ignore you do not even see their posts when they are quoted by someone else. That is not a behavior I have seen on other forums. I had to unignore him temporarily to understand what was happening.
Duh!! Definitely "clue-less"!! I recommend one shouldn't challenge a post, if they haven't even read same. This explains much!
I started this thread with the intention of providing some useful information for a small subset of the people here. Some of the comments made little sense until I realized that posts by people on ignore don't even show up when quoted. So I temporarily unignored people and reread the whole thread. I now regret starting it. It seems than only one person appreciated the information but it gave the naysayers, who belittle everything which goes against their own ideas, the opportunity to practice their inane people-bashing. For the record, I am not a prepper in any sense which is implied by these people. Am I prepared for potential problems? Of course I am, as should anyone be with even a modicum of intelligence. Do I shut myself up in a compound protected by guns and barbed wire? Of course not: I live outside a small rural town because I prefer it to the urban jungle. I am prepared for eventualities which I do not expect to arise as a consequence of my chosen lifestyle. I enjoy living in the country, I enjoy growing my own food, I have solar power for environmental reasons not survivalist reason. I own some gold and silver so as to diversify my assets. I have water filtration because the water here is polluted with agricultural runoff, not because I think it may be needed for survivalist reasons. I did the experiment with the buried silver because I did not need it and the article I saw piqued my curiosity. Now that that curiosity has been satisfied there is no need to repeat it but I thought that others who had heard the same many be interested in the results. I could go on further like this but I hope I have made my point. I try to respect everyone's opinions (although sometimes it is hard) and do not automatically belittle those who do not agree with me. As my avatar says, I do like to play devil's advocate sometime but the intention is to try to get people to think outside the little box they live in. So for those of you who having nothing good to say about those who do not embrace your lifestyle I have two things to say: you live your way and let others live theirs; try to think outside the box occasionally and you will see a whole new world, one which you may not understand but which you could learn to appreciate. Getting along with and trying to understand people of different beliefs, religions and cultures, etc. is, in my opinion, part of living a successful life.
Like you I am not a survivalist, prepper or hiding out in a bunker. Your thread interested me because I buried some 90% many years ago when we lived in a not so desirable location where houses were continually targeted by the local drug addicts. Let's face it, 90% takes up a lot of space. Even a thousand dollar bag would not fit into a safety deposit box, and who would store it there anyway. Physical gold and silver to me are just insurance in case the people running the show loose control, and I know enough people within the system to know this is not a zero probability. My wife and I moved to a rural area twenty-five years ago. We know everyone within a two mile radius and live on a private gravel road with about a dozen other families. We have an association that maintains the road and gets together once in a while socially. My wife and I both volunteer a lot in the community and because of this have met many fine people. I served my country from 1968-1972, and fortunately did not see any action, at least not up close and personal. There are a few people around here that some would call preppers, but they are decent people and we get along with them. Heck, if things did get out of hand they would be the kind of people I would like to keep close.
Although not a prepper, I do some of the things they do because of where I live. I live in the mountains (at 8,000 ft) in a suburban/rural area. The electricity goes out from time to time, so I have a generator. The water is suppied by a community water system, so we filter it and keep several cases of bottled water as backup (the community water system relies on electricity to pump its water through the system). We have enough emergency food supply to last for a month in case of bad weather and the only food store around might not get deliveries. I am a Viet Nam Vet that knows how to protect myself and my wife, so I do own firearms and more important, know how to use them. I bought the best safe that I could afford and keep my silver in it, the more valuable gold coins are keep in a seperate place. Having said the above, I do not bury any precious metal in the ground. My wife's uncle passed away and he had left, in his will, that he had buried precious metal, gold & silver, in the ground. It was a nightmare searching for it with a metal detector. To this day we don't know if we found it all. I was a reserve sheriff's officer for almost 30 years, so if you're trying to hide your precious metal, thieves, unless they are inexperienced ones, know all the common hiding spots for valuables. If you must hide valuable items in your home, I would suggest, if you have a two or more story home, to hide them at the highest story in your home. Thieves tend to want to get in and out and going up stairs to search is not a very common thing for thieves to do. I have a friend who built a bookcase that was big enough to hide the door to a walk-in closet, he put hinges on one side and small casters on the other, added a latch to keep the bookcase closed, and came up with the perfect place to put their valuables. I really am saddened by the current state of our country. My wife and I grew up in more gentle and kinder times. If one of my children fell off of their bike, the nearest neighbor to where they fell would be there before me to check on them. We were able to let them go to the local mom and pop store without worry. We didn't have the current level of techmology that we have now, but I'd gladly give it up for the attitude of the general population back then. Sorry for the long post, but sometimes I just need to get things off of my chest.
Aw, be nice you guys. Sometimes it is good to whistle through the cemetery. Some of my fellow teachers who have clearance won't even go into the cadaver room at college, I had 3 different custodians one semester as they all had to watch the door as they cleaned to be sure it didn't open. Once the electrical failed for a few minutes, and that person never came back. So if PM, guns, and all the prep works gives a sense of security, Let them alone. Likewise, they should not disparage paper traders of metals, because they do not really affect what the prep people are buying, as it is paper for paper in their world. Even with the commodity houses trading is paper for paper, unless you pay upfront for delivery, So both sides can co-exist. Or continue to harass , ignore, and insult each other. But do it within rules. In my experience more have been penalized or banned from this bullion forum, than any other on CT( excepting election years), and that can raise questions. Jim
