This is Several BU 2016 P FORT Moultrie. I do not come across these progression errors that often, but this one I have to post. I have personally found not all cracks progress into chips. USMC60 ct3-19-c1.jpg ct3-19-c2.jpg ct3-19-c3.jpg ct3-19-c4.jpg ct3-19-c5.jpg ct3-19-c6.jpg

Interesting.. but I disagree on your title. It is not a Coin Crack. It is a Die Crack. The progression of the crack on the Die is seen on the coin ;)

Hey paddyman :p You're absolutely correct but I guess I just is not is educated as you.I was always taught to keep it short. At least I didn't start with a crack coin LOL Potato putato. But I know on CT we strive for perfection LOL. So if it pleases you have the mod change it. I forgot members on CT do not tolerate street talk. I've should Have just put down crack progresses to chip. That's even shorter and would be correct.:happy::happy::blackalien:

Just for you paddyman98 As soon as I can catch a mod I'll have The mod take the coin out of my title that should be correct right. Do you wish to have die put in its place.?:blackalien:

Actually this whole post is in ERROR. Die cracks do not lead to die chips. A die chip is defined as:
A small piece (less than 4 square millimeters) that falls out of the die face and has no direct connection to the design rim. The missing piece leaves a void in the die face into which coin metal flows. As a result, the coin shows a featureless lump in the affected area.
A die chip can be connected to a die crack or it can be freestanding. Die chips frequently develop within narrow interstices in the design, such as the gap between the letters of LIBERTY. Hence the so-called “BIE” errors.
Also the progression of the die crack here is not clearly defined. Stage 1,2,3,4 ...
The author here should state a freestanding die chip appears at Stage 3 (as an example) with this normally looking progressive die crack we see in Stages 1-5.

Mr. Forgotten Coins ... soon. LOL.

Paddy I did what you said when I click on thread Tools all that comes up is ignore thread is the only option. As you know I've ran into this word problem several times and always had to have the moderator change it for me. I'm really not that computer savvy. It has only taken me 10 years to learn how to copy and paste. That's the way it is with my dyslexia everyone is different. Oh well thanks anyways I'll get a mod to change it.:blackalien:

As someone who has worked back-of-house for most of my life, I'm constantly backtracking to remove words (and make feeble attempts to correct grammar) which aren't allowed on this forum. I feeel your pain...

The edit option disappears after a set period of time, I don't recall how long that is though but it's not very long a time period if I'm remembering correctly.

It's really not a pain for me. I'm just a softy and do it to make others happy. If it was up to me I really don't care. I'm sure no one has a hard time following where I'm going with the thread, except for it seems some disagree. There is a multitude of things I disagree with. But the progression of a die failure is not a fantasy it's a reality.Whether members want to agree or not you have to have some knowledge of tempered steel to understand what a die goes through. And as the one member eloquently stated his textbook explanation, clearly shows he knows little about tempered steel.Excuse me I've got a little off track. Maybe one of the mods will let us know how long we have to make changes before were locked out.o_Oo_O:blackalien:
