Back in 1813, close to 40,000 Spanish reales were used to punch out dumps and two coins were made out of one: the holey and the dump. Many were recalled and culled over the years, making them quite scarce. Estimated survival rate of dump is around 2,000 and holey 300. Today a low grade holey could be worth more than the cost of a car and a higher grade could potentially buy a house (!) As Australia and Mexico celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relation, there is nothing more iconic than the holey dollar. They have previously reissued holey dollar and dump sets before. I owned one set in the OGP. I think it was the 1988 version. But, the design was vastly different than the originals. I purchased the set because the price was low and the coins had some very attractive toning.
