I have been throwing brilliant red coins into this sealed cask for about7-8 years now. All circ finds, mostly only shields. There are some wheats, memorials, a few dimes. Nothing bigger because they won't fit. Someone around here says that they won't save, they are as RD as the day they went in. I have also mixed a few toners also. 50 years down the line, will they all still be red?
I believe that they are mostly safe in the state and environment that they are in. If I move to say OK, I think that they would turn in an instant.
I got another 1936 to see if I could address the strike roughness on the cheekbone and jaw of this one. Also, there is a mark above the O of ONE. I believe it comes from the coin pusher mechanism that feeds the coins into the press at the mint. (I read great articles about these artifacts and then, can never find them again to properly credit the author.) Original The replacement has a fuller strike and a much richer red/orange color. The only downside is a spot in front of the face. On balance, I prefer the new one and will put it in the album. Replacement Full resolution photos
