Featured GDJMSP (head Cointalk Moderator) aka Doug, has passed

He will definitely be missed. I am at a loss for any other words. I just hope the passion he had for many things in life continue on in those whose lives he touched.

Just got the news now, such a loss, the numismatic world be never be the same again. Hope You are in Heaven looking down on us mortals.

I completely missed this news, very sad for Doug's family and the Cointalk community. He will be missed.

 

I have the same reaction when I come across one of your posts.

Doug was sneaky. He didn't always sign in. It didn't look like he was online but he was there making sure everyone was behaving.

I am sad for the loss of a life. My contribution here will be to say how much respect I have for moderators who make good spaces. Since the last time I was active here, I wound up with a mod/admin job on a forum full of people with problems. It was, well, a growth opportunity and I found out just how much work it takes. This didn't get to be a good space by accident.

 

Farewell, my fellow Doug.

He was a good man. He was *so* patient with me... and my neverending questions... as he struggled to unteach me market grading and show me the finer points of technical grading.

More than once, he spoke with me on the phone. More than once, he saved me from wasting my meagerly-budgeted money on a "problem coin" or a undergraded specimen. He helped me build the humble collection that I have today; the collection that I will someday pass on to my children when I, too, shuffle off this mortal coil.

You will be missed, my friend.

 

I start thinking of Doug every time I come to this site. It's always about the fun times here or at the winter FUN Show. I learned a lot from him.

 

Thank you for bringing up this thread, I have taken a few hiatus over the last couple of years and did not know Doug had passed. We never met in person but had a few conversations on here. As with I, and a few more members on these boards, he was a very head strong man and was unwavering in his opinions. That was one of the things I liked about him, that and the fact that he was fair in his decisions as a moderator. Rest in peace my virtual friend.
