I saw this one on eBay at $125 OBO and I really like the color. I hope it's as nice in hand. I made on offer of $85 and was a little surprised that it was immediately accepted.

This coin is touted as rare or scarce but I don't know what that means in real terms. Anybody know how to define those terms?

That is nice, hopefully it's just as nice in hand, as mentioned. Great addition!

    It's very appealing :)

I have no idea about its scarcity.

So far only two Imperial Trajans are in my collection-- one purposefully purchased and the other from a mixed lot.

Good score at a good price! I don't know if it's rare or not. eBay sellers use it so often I ignore it...unless I know the seller knows what they're talking about.

PS: @Mikey Zee . I love your Trajan of Tyre. You seem to have the small heads version, which in my opinion is much nicer than the big heads version I have. Very nice coin, man.

Trajan_Divi_Nerva.jpg Very nice denarius , bargain price too H8 congrats.
the coin is in memory (Divus) for Trajan's father (30-100 AD) , Senator Marcus Trajanus Pater.
Here's a coin (not mine) in memory of his adoptive father emperor Nerva and his real father Trajanus Pater.

I can't tell if the nice denarius is scarce or not, but I do know that you do not see too many of that type.

    Nice coin!

A quick search (acsearch) reveals that on the reverse on that denarius ''Traian honours his father, M. Ulpius Traianus, who had been Proconsul of Asia in 79/80.''

As it seems it is indeed relatively scarce coin - 5 examples listed in acsearch.

I searched google, Forum and CNG and didn't find too many examples. I don't trust eBay listings either.

Here's my one and only Trajan from when he was just starting out as emperor. For a few months it was my oldest coin, just sneaking into the first century. By the end of that year - 2014 - I had Vespasian, the Roman Republic and Ptolemy III represented in my collection. A good coin collecting year!
