I have a 1982-D small date copper 3.1 grams. The mint mark looks as if it was struck through grease or something. It looks as if the 'D' mint mark may been strucked a lil too deep into the penny. If you zoom in you can see the 'D' mint mark. Mint mark 'D' error. My apologies for the photos being a lil too blurry. Pics was tooken by android phone. The 'D' mint mark is visible. Weight: 3.1 grams
    Looking for advice. Thanks

That is a 1982 Philadelphia Small Date Copper. That is surface damage, not a “D” mintmark. I have never seen a 1982-D of any kind look like that.

That's a brutal place to have surface discoloration that looks like a D under certain light. But it's in the wrong position, if I'm not mistaken.

Die varieties and errors are much different characters.
Do you have a D mint mark? or do you have a zinc cent?

Its not Zinc, its copper. 3.1 grams is copper.

If someone from PCGS examined it and said it's a copper small-date 1982-D, what on Earth would prevent you from getting them to put it in a slab? Even if it had environmental damage, an actual 1982-D SD copper would be a four-figure coin.

I currently do not have the funds to get it graded. Struggling father of 4 little girls.

That’s not a D mint mark. It’s the start of what looks like a D in the wrong place but close to a mint mark that’s actually the start of a zinc blister. It’s a copper coated zinc cent, not a copper cent.

…I called it copper because I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he said the weight was 3.1 grams.

Up to now, he has stated the weight at 3.1 grams 6 times.

@Gentleman1 …please post a picture of the coin on a calibrated scale showing the readout of 3.1 grams.

By all means, your family comes first.

But, even if you had the funds you wouldn’t want to try and get it graded…yet. There are too many unanswered questions that need addressing before that is attempted. Right now, it really doesn’t qualify as a candidate to be authenticated or graded because we don’t know enough. That’s what you must supply for us to be able to help you.

There’s no hurry. We all want to help if we can…Spark

Buddy, you need to show the weight on a gram scale.

If you really had it looked at by some guy from PCGS then send it in for attribution and come back and prove us wrong.
At the moment we all agree it's not what you say it is.
