Another Barber half "cull" I got for $28. This one is a 1907-D. Looks to be about VF-30 to me. I'm thinking about sending it to ANACS to get a number grade, despite a possible "cleaned" result. Even cleaned, it might be worthwhile at this grade, you think? I'd like to hear from folks who have gotten Barbers, back "Details - Cleaned," or straight-graded with some scratches. Do you think this one stands a chance at a straight grade, maybe if the grader is having a really nice day? I see the scratches, but could it possibly squeak by? Thanks!
I don't know why you would call this a cull. Or why you would pay $28 for a cull. It would look nice in most collections.
I'm at VF-25/30 details, cleaned. There's no way in my opinion this coin would straight grade. You did pretty good though, the coin is worth at least $60 in my book.
Thanks! I wouldn't call it a cull, or "junk" either, but the dealer did! It came in a roll of "low premium" ($3 below spot in this case). Most look cleaned and/or slick.
A 1907-D is a common date for a Barber Half Dollar. At $75.00 the melt value is $27.13 so you paid spot price range. It’s definitely been cleaned and scratched from the cleaning. I think it’s more in the 20-25 range but being a common date it’s only worth spot. Certainly not a cull coin.
