Hello, I have a quick question about pillar dollars. I am looking to purchase a pillar dollar sometime in the near future, and I am wondering how much, as a ball park estimate how much would a common date pillar dollar, with average eye appeal in VF20-VF30 condition cost? Also, are there any references that you recommend that I should look at to learn more about them. Thank you for any knowledge provided in advance.

You're welcome! I don't collect these, but do agree that they look cool! I certainly would not mind owning one.
Hopefully some other members will chime in with their knowledge about these coins.

AU 1740 Mexico City one at my LCS for $550. I held and stared at it for a long time while buying some Spanish silver today.

Thank you, and they do look so cool! They would be a neat addition, considering their history.

Common date/mint, those grades, slabbed and graded, you should be able to get one for about $300. And if you pay more than that you're over-paying.

    Brandon,
I'm seeing about $350+/- for a non slabbed common late date (Carlos III) VF+ these days.

    Happy hunting!

Common XF pillars with nice original surfaces can be found around $300 as GDJMSP mentioned. Certified would bump that up by around $50-100.

Nice, hey the scratches are hardly noticeable to me! The coin looks really good!
