The newbs who are thinking about investing in silver can put some money aside by buying Mercury dimes each week. It's motivating to build a stack over time. But for liquidity and possibly the best returns, ASEs are the way to go (as has been shown in many Youtube videos of this market). However, I think 90 percent silver is a lot more fun to collect because of its history.
The global stock markets are crashing and oil is skyrocketing - Brent is up 22.47% according to CNBC. I see precious metals as insurance. Man I'm glad I just bought more silver. The value is not just in the price, but also like insurance in the peace of mind. Gold and silver are insurance.
You buy what you can Sal. Sometimes you but nothing so you can save for that expensive coin. Other times you but several cheap ones at the same time. It all depends on what your looking for and your living expenses at that time.
I do the same, Pre-1933 and 90%. However, I do not consider numismatic. Rather, my mindset is commodity pricing in a recognizable trusted format (coins). I have bullion coins, however it seems original coinage is a better opportunity cost. Considering bullion, but the real cost difference is not enough for me to change focus. Considered barrels of oil, but storage at my bank would be a stretch… 1/4 Toz AV, vs ~750 gal petroleum… Nah, pass on that.
Your avatar: years ago, I had a white frog crawl all over my stuff every morning when I lived in Central Florida… took pics ea. morn to send to my kids. Cant find pics now.
Cool. The avatar is of an Anolis sagrei, or brown anole. He's very intelligent. He has a glow in his eyes. In that pic he approached me as he's prone to do.
Yesterday silver opened at $84+, dropped to $81+, then closed about $.25 short of its opening. And that’s just about where it’s at this morning, $84.+. Up, down, up and down and up again.
First it was down this morning. Just after noon time it was almost back to even. Now, it’s up to almost $86. Talk about not making up your mind.
You know what's crazy? Back when silver was $20, a $2 daily move would have had everyone going nuts. Now that's a mild day.
After seas is open and it’s now over $87.00 an ounce. Back in the right direction as far as I’m concerned. Go baby go. But I’m sure it will drop soon enough. Too soon for me. I’d like to see it maintain a level over $90.00. Wouldn’t you?
A friend shipped me two ring trays of sterling silver jewelry. His father used to swing by a certain pawn shop and buy all their old inventory and probably pennies on the dollar. He's passed now and the family is looking to sell some of his collection. This jewelry doesn't sell for anything where they are and I'm in the southwest.
