There are many magnificent bronze pieces struck for Septimius in the provinces, including one city particular city in the Balkans - I just do not recall. As i mentioned the provinces picked up the slack during this period especially in eastern Europe - I only wish I had some of the ones i have sold in the past. Some of these have a strong resemblance to portraits from the Rome mint and I have wondered if these were done by celator(s) traveling with Septimius as he made his way east and back to Rome. Who knows?

A French auction house just sold a Geta sestertius from ca. 206AD. I had sold a bunch of my sestertii, saved up money from expense reimbursements at work, DESPERATELY wanted the coin but had to quit when the bidding went over 1600 euros. Who else besides me collects from this period? It was t in great condition - why bid it up that high? I’m I hope it’s not some museum that will put it away from collectors for good - does the British Museum really need multiple examples?

I know people disagree but I think museums should stick to things like paintings, pottery and statuary. Not coins which spend most of their time locked in the basement while bronze disease turns the base coins to dust.
