The Buffalo/Indian round weighs 26,79 grams. The Interlinked Chains round weighs 30,86 grams.

Are these legit? If so, why do they weigh differently?

    how thick are they?
is the rim on the chains medal thicker than the buffalo (which will be a weight variance)?

where did you get them, how long have you had them ... (ie, don't say AliExpress).

Yes, they are both legit. The Buffalo should weigh the same as the standard US silver dollar (it will weigh the same as a Morgan). That weight should be 26.7 grams.

The one with the chain is a standard ounce round, which should be 31.1 grams.

Thank you very much for your very helpful information - I really appreciate it.

I was puzzled by the Buffalo because it looks the ones same in a roll of Buffalo rounds I bought from APMEX. I guess they are similar designs, but not identical.

The Chains round I have not seen before, that is what surprised me. I saw no sales on Ebay for chain rounds.

Thank you guys again, and have a good weekend!

The buffalo nickel is one of the most widely popular US coin designs ever made. Many, many silver bullion rounds have been made with a design inspired by the buffalo nickel (indian head on one side, buffalo on the other). These are often very similar in appearance to the nickel, just blown up to a silver ounce size.

The US Government decided to make a commemorative dollar in 2001 (why 2001? that date has no significance... 2013 would have made a lot more sense!).

Anyways - your coin is an official US mint issue... the buffalo rounds you're talking about from APMEX are just imitations of the original design, because it's so popular.

Note that on the mound which the buffalo stands on is: "ONE DOLLAR".

Both are good but one is an ounce of silver and the other is a 90% coin.
