Only a 1 ounce copper round but copper is at an all time high. It’s somewhere around $6.00. That’s more than twice what all my copper rounds cost me. I’m thinking maybe I should start selling them. I do have a lot of them and I’m not about to pay toddy’s current prices. That scrape behind his headdress is on the holder, not on the copper. I didn’t even notice it until I cropped the photo.
It’s French for Avoirdupois. 16 ounces to o a pound or 28.35 grams. The Troy ounce is a bit heavier and that’s used to weight precious metals like gold and silver. Avoirdupois means “goods of weight," and is the common unit in the U.S. system for general goods. Hope that helps.
A beautiful copper round. I thought many times about buying copper but never did for some reason. Bruce
I have at least 100 plus different ounces and I bought them all at $2.00 or less. I think they are pretty and cheap but the price has gone up too much to keep buying.
Hey CN, that $6 spot price is the pound price. Not per oz. Edit: I love that Sitting Bull round. Very nice round.
I used to buy them when they would run a sale, I would try and buy the equal to what ever silver coin or bar I was buying at the time have a mug full marked for grandkids.
But now all the penny hoarders who think they are gonna get rich can melt their alloyed copper and break even. (25%x 6.00 = 1.50 which is around how many pennies there are per pound.) almost 146 at 3.11 g. Is it legal to melt now that the pennies are discontinued?
I used to see copper rounds at coin shows all the time. Now I wish I'd invested in buying a few of them. Not for the value necessarily but because I like the look of them. Bruce
Someone pranked me just the other day by secretly sticking a copper round with an eagle reverse like that into my bag at the FUN show. When I got my coins out at the NGC table, I found that round, and went, "What the heck? Where did THAT come from?!?" The other side of the round had the portrait of a certain divisive political figure (of whom I am not a fan, as the prankster well knew). And that's all I'll say about that. I liked the eagle on it, at least.
Their worth is not what you can expect to pay for them. Any price I get that is over my cost is profit.
