That's the current melt as of today, just a hair north of it. If people could set up local trading posts swap meets, some people would gladly pay that to avoid paying dealer premiums.

Todays close was $85.33 so that makes a silver dime worth $6.17 without figuring in fees.

If you do a person-to-person sale, maybe. Dealers are factoring in the risk of a collapse on top of their usual buy-sell spread, so even the big online dealers appear to be offering between 10 and 15% below spot for buy prices. But even $5.30 for a common silver Rosie is more than I ever expected to see.

I usually look at Kitco which is 24 hours. Silver goes up and down a lot when you do 24 hours.

Anyway when I heard they are paying 20x face I left. I just told a woman waiting I decided not to sell.

That guy reminded me of someone I've seen before, couldn't put my finger on it. Doesn't look like him but both of them are big and voice sounds a lot alike. Chumlee from Pawn Stars.

Speaking about history and it doesn't matter about the price of silver. I have a felt bag I consider junk. I went through it to see if there is anything I should keep and found a Barber half I consider good and took it out. Other stuff like dateless standing liberty I consider junk.

The SLQ design was really bad. Not as far as appealing to the eye, but regarding how the date was positioned. There are millions of dateless ones, and kills their collectability.

Correct but the design was change in 1925. From 1916 to 1924 the date was too high and wore off easily in circulation. In 1925 the date was recessed making it lower. It’s stayed that way until 1930 when the last ones were produced.

What this created is worn dates on the earlier issues and readable dates on the later issues. Because of the worn dates, it has caused prices to be higher on the earlier issues, despite higher mintages. The recessed dates have lower mintages but cost less.
    A 1921 with a mintage of 1,916,000 is about a $100 coin. A 1927-S has a mintage if 396,000 but is about a third of the cost.

I have one SLQ that is 1920 with a clear date and appears to be higher grade. Dateless I think are junk silver.
