The serious collectors want large cents, especially the early ones. These manufactured rarities are for the new comers with more money than experience and good sense.

I understand your view, and while I may be a "newcomer" I do not have more money than either experience or common sense; mainly because I just don't have a lot of money. Not everyone likes the same things, and we can enjoy what we want without being brow beat by the "established" crowd.
