Who would like to add a bad buyer to their eBay block list?

Actually, the coin's Numismedia FMV is $63.75 in MS64 (without FBL.) With FBL (and this coin has a chance at an upgrade, it's hard to tell with the reverse toning) it is $83. The coin was in an old PCGS Rattler holder and had a nice rainbow ring around the obverse. The coin was listed at $125 BIN/BO and was sold at $110.

I've a good friend who was just forced to take back and issue a refund for a laptop sold NINE MONTHS ago. I believe it was due to her filing a chargeback, but still goes to the point that when push comes to shove, sellers are often at the mercy of both PayPal and their buyers.

FWIW, things may be getting a bit tougher on the buyer's side, too -- I posted a thread late last year about an experience where eBay Buyer Protection required me to file a police report over an empty-box case before they would issue my refund. My local police were baffled at what they had to do with an eBay dispute and/or a mail fraud case, but they dutifully sent out an officer who took a report.

I'd hope this requirement would slow down fraudulent buyers. But it's also going to slow me down when it comes to high-value purchases -- "at worst, it'll cost me a police interview, a trip to the station to get a copy of the report, and an extra hour or so of my time" is very different from "at worst, it'll cost me a few minutes to file a claim, and a week or so to get my money back".

I don't see a general way for eBay and PayPal to keep both sides happy in the face of "he said/she said" disputes. But I do see plenty of opportunity for them to point fingers at each other, dodge responsibility, and hope one or both sides will give up and go away without demanding a refund. Your case demonstrates that approach a lot more starkly than mine did.

I took a nearly $2900 loss due to what turned out to be an obvious scam, and was directly told by PayPal there really is (was?) no dispute process, but only a policy to side with the buyer. Given, this was about ten years ago now and things may have changed, but does go to your point. I had everything from the guy's contradictory messages, with numerous easily provable lies, to the actual postal delivery person willing to send a notarized letter stating the guy in fact received the package, but they refused to even consider it. To add insult to injury, I never would have shipped had PayPal not guaranteed me I was covered by their "protection" policies, and the guy was "verified" at the time of purchase and shipment, but no longer was once he filed a case.

That said, and I'm sorry to say it, Benjamin; this wound was both avoidable and self-inflicted. This isn't to say I feel you're wrong in any way regarding your position, but only that because you're playing in eBay's house, you have to play by their rules. You should've known from the get go that you were likely taking it back one way or another, and simply should've bitten the bullet, accepted it, and been done with it. That said, I certainly wish you the best of luck.

There are always people who try to take advantage of the system and I think that's unfortunate but, honestly, if PayPal didn't have the reputation of consistently siding with the buyer then I think very few people would buy items they didn't need from venues like EBay. All told I think siding with the buyer is good for the reputable sellers.

Pretty stupid and guess what I had somewhat similar problems with eBay . I purchase an item and I didn't read it all the way through and ty to send it back. Contacted the seller and all the stuff, eBay refused to paid it back to me. So I got stuck with the item and never will buy from this person again. Yes I know it is my fault but you figure the seller would understand. No the seller refuse to take it bk

When a buyer wants a free coin, then the buyer WILL get the free coin.

This has happened to me several times with other things, and there's literally no way to avoid them siding with the buyer. IT SUCKS

After seeing all these threads about SNAD, I think you should eat the current one, but open a SNAD insurance company and offer policies for SNAD protection to all ebay sellers. You will make a fortune in premiums.

I only get mad about returns when I already spent the money they paid lol.

Wow. You know that makes your sympathy quotient take a hit, don't you? I have NEVER even once paid over Numismedia FMV for ANY coin ever. Almost never anywhere CLOSE to it. Typically FMV -30% is my top.

I was waiting for someone to say it. :)

When one asks very strong money, buyer remorse comes with the territory, should be expected, and accepted as part of the game.

You do realize, though, that you and I are cheapskates, and as such we probably aren't the customers most sellers are looking for? ;)

LOL this exactly. PayPal removed $110 from my account...giving it a negative balance...meaning I couldn't use PayPal MultiOrder Shipping to print other labels.

Also, when you've already paid your consignor and then PP steals your money.

Had similar experiences with Paypal. They simply take without reprieve. They need to go away.

I "caint hep it", it's in my DNA. Pennsylvania German stock. I think I'd probably stop collecting if I were somewhere FMV prevails. It's why I seldom shop at major shows. I go for the seminars.

Sounds like you're promising more liquidity to your consigners than PayPal will support.

Well, I wasn't angling for sympathy. And I didn't force anyone to buy anything. All I did was exactly what I promised I'd do - so if that makes me seem less sympathetic to you, so be it. Sounds like we'd never be a buyer/seller match in the first place...lol

Yeah, I'm a candidate for last place in the sympathy for dealers event. And if you always do BIN/BO, I'll never even see your stuff. I exclude those. Full auction only.
