I think this is smart. 40% halves just take up so much space. Plus, you purify your stack to one of the best silver coins available.

When I had a local dealer he offered me about 80% of spot for the 40%, if someone offered me 91% I would dance.

This seems like a no brainer. Even if a minimal loss is involved at the front of the deal, just holding for a while seems like it would pay off.

I'm definately doing it this weekend. I'm going for a 10 oz bar and as many ASE's I can get after that with 120 coins. Doing the same for my girlfriend, she has 98 coins.

Local B&M retired, now I am stuck with the 40%. I always keep the 90% and got rid of the 40%. I was pleased as punch to sell them even at 4X because of the quantity involved. I am guessing I have about 65 of them now.

I sold 120 of them last year. Got 85% melt for 60 of them and then for the last 60 I got 97% melt. The 97% guy was at a show.

Excellent B-Man. What kind of 10 ounce bar you getting? Poured or Mint produced?

Mint produced. I actually just got off the phone with him and he said 80 coins for a 10 oz bar. So I will be parting with 1.8 ounces of crappy silver. He will also trade for 2017 ASE's. probably in the 9 coin range I would assume.

Yeah, you could possibly get more out of an eBay sale if you held out for a selling promotion (free/capped FVF), but in this case I'd be inclined to take the local deal. By the same token, I've generally sold silver at local coin shows -- the dealers don't pay quite as high as Provident, but it's usually within a couple percent, I sell whatever quantity I like, and walk out with cash in my pocket. (It's good PR with the family comptroller when I come home from the show with more cash than I took...)

so B-MAN your saying that he will trade ONE ASE FOR 9 40% KENNEDY HALVES? that's approx. 23.50 give or take for one ASE..

Pretty much correct. He's giving me 91% melt and his ASE's are $3.00 over.

You are going in the right direction in my opinion B-Man I just wish I had an outlet like that for my 40%er's. I would love to get a bar or an ASE for the 40%er's.

Yeah, 80 40% halves for a bar. The dealer said we would figure out what it would be per ASE. I may just hold out on trading for the ASE's and save the 40 coins I will have left and reload for another bar. I just bought 45 2017 ASE's the last few weeks so I feel I'm not missing out on too much. Then again I don't think you can have too many ASE's!

So true you can't have enough ASE's. Most paydays I try to buy either a maple or ASE. It builds up very quickly and the stack keeps increasing.

Ok, so I did the deal today. For my girlfriend I traded 80 40% silver halves for a 10 oz bar. For myself I traded 120 40% halves and $28.00 for 15 2017 ASE''s. I bought 25 last week so the 15 completed my third tube. Yes, I lost some ounces of silver but it was crap 40%. All in all I paid $88 for 15 ASE's.

Great deal besides the extra $28. I wonder if you could have bargained to pay a little less or no extra cash at all?

I wouldn't do the trade for silver rounds or bars but I would trade swiftly for ASE's. Silver rounds and bars don't sell as quickly as ASE's. Be on guard, the dealer may be trying to talk you into trading simply for rounds and bars, don't do it! That's my 2 cents!

40% Kennedy Halves are hard to get a fair price on and I believe I did. He gave me $2.35 per coin.
