There used to be a dealer who advertised in The Numismatist promoting the box of 20 concept. Do you happen to know his name, or about when the ads appeared? I searched The Numismatist archive with several keywords, but no luck.

Unfortunately I do not exactly know.

This is the name I found of the person who promoted the cause in the 90s:
    Jay Parrino
    Is this who you meant?

Thanks for telling me. I'm starting to think I imagined the Numismatist ads. Lots of references to Jay Parrino and his high quality coins in The Numismatist, however.

Here is a new addition. It isn't quite a slab, but it is related to (6), so I'll call it (6.5)

If the holder is accurate, then these were given out at the 1990 Seattle ANA show (which would seem about right since Compugrade was formed around 1991).
Given the Compugrade sample slabs are hard to find and expensive when they do show up, this will likely be the closest that I will get to a sample for now.

Really enjoyed reading and rereading this thread. I have been collecting 'Out of Business' slabs for 11 years now and some of the ones in your Bof20 I have never seen. (collecting since 1969)
Started collecting them really by accident. Just sold off most of my collection (US coins 1794 thru 1900's) and was getting board with coins and the different series. Then started collecting PCGS and ANACS 1st generation holders, ANACS photo certs, and expanded to out of business slabs.

This is one of my favorite classic commemorative half dollars and the IGS
holder is not one seen too often.

Old CT thread on it (the CT graders were tough!)

Never seen IGS, and though I'd wanna see a closer picture to be sure, it looks like that Oregon Trail could be correctly graded. Quite gemmy looking!

    Time for an update!

Here is a Franklin in a Blanchard holder...these are not common but not rare either (I have seen several for sale over the years). The Blanchard Sample holders are the ones to watch for (not actually marked sample, but they don't have a grade listed either).

Don't think I've seen a Blanchard slab before.

Here is a odd one but I kept it as a thumb nail since this is your box of 20.

It was a great Franklin, but it helped finance several other purchases; so I had to let it go.
If you keep an eye out for PCI graded coins, you'll see some fantastic toners. The only problem for potential buyers is that they tend to go for strong prices.

For some reason franklins always get some of the best toning!
