Q David Bowers will be guest speaker at the New England Numismatic Assn. 75th Anniversary Convention on Nov 11th. http://www.nenacoin.org/ Richard Ziegler Vice President NENA
I collect all kinds of medals, and it just happens that I have a NENA bronze medal that is 30+ years old. I never thought that I would ever "bump into" anyone affiliated with NENA. Small world! Chris
I once had one from Hershey Coin Club...I think? Never met anyone from the club. Don't even know if it's still going. Pretty sure I sent it to @longnine009 but I might be wrong.
Awesome! Not trying to hijack this thread...I think this would be a great opportunity if only I lived close by. Thanks for posting the information @ziggy9
Pa. is related to the Dave Bowers. He was born and raised in Pa. And, as a teenager, was a member of the Wilkes-Barre Coin Club. I believe he was also a part-time coin dealer at Wilkes-Barre.
Bowers is insanely wise numsmatically and he is the first person to tell you that. His books have outstanding reference information.
Nice. I may attend, as it is only an hour away. Maybe I'll get to share a beer with @Mainebill @Mad Stax @KSorbo @MrOrange1970 and some other fellow CTers
As a native of Vermont it pains me to offer encouragement to New Hampshire ( ), but I believe I'll have to attend this event.
I've heard him speak at a recent PCGS lunch. ANA last year or the year before, perhaps. Anyway, his speaking style was an unstoppable, extemporaneous stream of consciousness about coin stuff. The topic he was going to talk about was probably a PCGS dealer hall of fame inductee, but that was merely the first domino to get knocked over, as I imagine is the case often when he speaks. It should be an interesting event.
Bowers has tremendous numismatic knowledge. However, he can be long winded in his writings, about who he met at a convention, if the buffet has mashed or roasted potatoes, etc. I met him at the ANA show in Chicago and in reality I found him to be pompous and rather rude.
I will certainly be in attendance and hope to meet my fellow CTers! Massholes included! As for the illustrious Mr. Bowers, I see him as a genius in our hobby. And after many reads and watching videos (see ANA legacy series) he definitely exhibits the classic traits of an Asperger's personality; And believe me considering Mark Zuckerberg is a prime modern example, this is not an insult. Hence, I wouldn't ever think that I could engage in a conversation that would be relevant to him or me. That said, I still admire the man greatly and his books are a joy to read! Hope to see my fellow New Englander's there!
I could tell you had a bone to pick with your "dig" in Post#7. Sometimes, intelligent, busy, successful, people DON'T SUFFER OLD FOOLS TOO WELL. While I'm no DB, I'm sure many people find me rude at times too.
