This is more of a rant then anything else, so just bare with me, so I have been buying from APMEX close to 6 years now, allot more in the last 2 years, my gripe is the unrealistic ship time, they have been moving up the ladder from a $250 minimum order to $550 so whats next ? I ordered a couple more coins last week usually I order on a Sunday and there in my mail box by Thursday evening, they had on there website that there would be a slight delay in processing, hell its not going to ship for 10 days ! thats unacceptable especially since I have elite status I have decided to give them a call in the morning, if I have to wait that long maybe will go a different route.
As the hands holding gold become more reluctant to sell, the lead times on delivery will continue to increase. You will probably encounter this with all sources that buy from common pipelines. At some point, all of the physical gold will approach over-commitment, and then the waits will become even longer and / or the orders will start being canceled. When prices rise enough to convince you and others to stop buying and start selling, then you'll see wait times drop. Funny that you should complain, not realizing that you are part of the problem.
At this point in time. premiums are increasing AND delivery dates are being extended. This is pretty much industry wide. It's a bite, but . . . rono
For what it's worth, I'm elite, and I've only spent $4,601.19. Just need 10+ orders. However, I agree with you - The $250 minimum was bearable, but a $500 minimum order is ridiculous. Apmex has ramped up their "Rare Coins" inventory in the last few years, and I've been filling holes in my type set along with buying bullion. Not doing that until the order mini is lifted.
No LCSs in your area, @mpcusa ? I'd rather just go to a brick and mortar shop, but I have many since I'm in a top 3 US Metro. Lots of access and supply for me in just a short drive.
I agree. I would rather spend my money at a local shop or coin show even if I pay a bit more. The closer to home you spend your money essentially it's better for you as well.
I don't, and won't, deal with APMEX, so have no answer for you, but is it just possible that they don't actually keep the bullion in stock, but wait for someone, like you, to order and then they buy it from their source, hence the minimum amount and time involved? Just a thought.
I've heard lead times are growing...what does that say. Can't sell what you don't have. Well your not supposed to sell what you don't have.
Everything you said that you don’t like is pretty standard a standard today. It’s dealers longer to ship. If you want it sooner, buy from your LCS.
How does that stack up in the pecking order before or after Sucker? A wise man once told me VIP stands for Very Important Prince and you know how to spell prince...Pri¢k.
Visited a strong Dealer today and Silver and Gold are going to continue to increase over a period of time unless the stock market catches fire or at least regain stability. Their guess if you can get it will end around 3500 for gold , and likewise % for silver. Mixed Lincoln cents are currently $35 for a bag of 500 and almost no 5000 bags are available. Many dealers seem not wanting to sell perhaps low if they can't replace it with a reasonable price, so they hold it until the direction becomes stable. The store was packed more than a couple of months ago with clients waiting outside the door until someone else left. Very Interesting!!
It's easy to shout fire in a crowded theater, and collect the belongings afterwards. When PMs are at record highs, people buy and sell quicker than I can post this comment.
Who cares…..Patience is a virtue, the coin is just going to be spammed in ten different threads here and then sit in a dark closet for years.
