Can a coin acquire "desert patina" if it wasn't minted anywhere near the desert?

I don't care for applied patinas at all, but we need to be careful about condemning coins prematurely. At NYINC I examined a few hoards very similar to the one Salem posted above - hundreds of common coins with similar, homogeneous sand patinas. They look applied to the untrained eye, but in fact they aren't - it's exactly how they appear after they've been lightly cleaned.

when you deal with a seller like me at Athena Numismatics, we do mention if the Patina is applied or might be applied , we do mistakes for sure rarely , but we backup our coins and we do offer full refunds if you don't like the coin, and a sorry credit if we missed mentioning that the coin has applied patina plus full refund.

Why remove it? I've learned a lot from the contents. I have also gained respect for @Salem Alshdaifat for having the gonads to come on here and give his thoughts on the subject.
