I'm undecided what 100oz bar to get I have my sights on a JM Bullion Bar or something without the premium...
Get the cheapest one as long as it is genuine. What difference does it make? You're not buying a work of art. Chris
A 100 oz. Bar? OK. Does the design really matter to you? Are you willing to pay a premium for that bar? Or do you want a low cost bar? You did say "something without the premium..." Does that answer your question, if you had a question.
You do know about the pain of reselling a 100oz bar right? Most will want to drill it for authenticity. I highly suggest getting 10× 10oz bars instead. Seriously, you may pay just a smidgen more but they are a much easier sell. Around .90c over spot per oz. And up. So your looking at about $1650 +/- for a 100oz bar today
Personally I love the look of a poured bar, the Johnson Matthey 100oz bar is beautiful in person. I recently was able to get a 100oz Geiger bar which has several cool security features built in. Very cool including a UV light stamp etc. It is cool but if I could choose again I would get the poured bar. Cheaper too I think, usually about $1/oz over spot.
This. The larger the bar the smaller the potential buying pool which means the lower the offers will be
How do you plan to eventually sell the bar? If to your LCS then find something they prefer to transact in and buy it from them.
I don't buy anything over 12 Troy ounces. If needed, you would have to sell the whole bar just to get a small portion of your funds back. The flexability is lost due to it's size.
I'm happy with my 100 ozt RCM bar. Currently selling at 84 cents/ozt over spot. Not worried about being able to sell it, if/when the time comes. Government minted. Buy whatever makes YOU happy. http://www.jmbullion.com/100-oz-rcm-silver-bar-new/
Government minted means next to nothing on 100oz bars. It's way too easy to create any 100oz bar design with a tungsten core. But I agree with buy what you like Why buy a 100oz bar with all its drawbacks instead of 10x 10oz bars with much easier liquidity and the ability to sell in fractions. That's all I'm sayin
You can purchase 50 ounces from Northwest Territorial Mint at low premiums and free shipping. I'm not sure the premium on a 100 oz bar much lower, if not the same. If I could purchase 100 ounces of silver I'd consider a 24k 1oz American Buffalo.
The 100 oz bars can be difficult to sell And some folks would rather have a chocolate bar than a FREE 10 oz silver bar
