Can anyone help me determine the value of a 2006 American Silver eagle PCGS black label from the 20th anniversary Set Registry Luncheon. I have searched for auction/sale results with no luck except for an item on Worthpoint. (In order to see the auction results, you must have a subscription, which I don't have). It seems there aren't too many of these out there or for sale. Thanks in advance.
From what I can tell the coin is not graded. I would find it unlikely someone would pay much of a premium for a label.
It's a type of sample slab given out at show luncheons. In this case the registry set guys luncheon. This was the 20th anniversary year of pcgs too so it holds a touch of extra meaning. I'm not sure on how many were given out or today's value but @Conder101 or Burton might be able to help
I don't believe this is from the 20th Anniversary Set. These limited edition sets were sold out from the Mint, and it was also the first year that the Mint sold a Burnished Eagle with the West Point mintmark separately. This meant that to get the 20th Anniversary authentication on the slab, the entire boxed set had to be received by the grading service in the original shipping box. What you have is an ordinary SAE from a green monster box that was used for the 20th Anniversary of PCGS and given to the attendees of the Registry Luncheon in 2006. Chris
Sample slab collectors will, how much of a premium I do not not know for that one. I would guess around 100 which the 30 year luncheons are selling for on ebay but it may be more than that.
Luncheon slabs are avidly collected. The first was made in 2003, making this 2006 slab an earlier example. Although some luncheon slabs have sold for as little as $40 in eBay auctions, this one is above average and should have an above average price. I will estimate that it would go for $125, or about what the previous poster believes. I have been tracking eBay sample slab sales for 2 1/2 years and have about 2,900 records. This slab does not appear in my data, so my estimate is not based on comparables.
I was unable to find any comparables for that one either which makes me think we may both be low in our estimates
