i purchased a roll of silver eagles (ASE) i kept just one for myself after giving it to all the little kids i know , i only had one this sucks..lol.. thank god it was not something rare or uncommon.. but it still sucks to loose a 20$$ coin. that was my christmass present to myself
That's sucks, I sympathize with you. I've never lost a pocket piece, but I did accidently spend my first one, a Type 1 1976D Ike dollar, after about 5 months in the pocket. Spent it with a bunch of other Ike dollars by accident at my LCS, of all places. ASE are good for pocket pieces though. The fact that they are not rare or uncommon (or old or collectible) is precisely why. I carried a 2013 (my daughter's birth year) for awhile, but semi-retired it since it's so much more prone to dings and scratches than, say, 90% or 80%. I still throw it in from time to time though. My main piece these days is an 1883-O Morgan I've been toting since last April.
That's too bad! Whenever I've misplaced something that I knew I had in my pocket, I usually start searching all of the places where I put/sort dirty laundry. Have you checked the laundry hamper? Chris
Ouch. I carry four. 3 morgans & 1 franklin. I "loose" one or two every so often but always seem to find them in a day or two either around my bed or most usually in between the drivers seat and console of my car. My 1882-o vam3 eluded me for almost a week once So don't give up hope!
Nope. I HATE the jingle. It annoys me like none other. This combination of 3 morgans with a half grinder is the sweet spot. I've tried adding another half but then the jingles begin
I like to carry a silver dollar in my chest pocket. That way if I ever get shot in the heart I'll leave behind an interesting conversation piece... I doubt a silver dollar would deflect a bullet... but... maybe...
It would stop the bullet, assuming it's not a magnum or high power rifle. You might have a couple broken ribs, but still live to tell the story
Don't give up. I lost a rare medal once. It wasn't a pocket piece per se but I was carrying it along to a few places for information on it, and moved into a new house. I could NOT find it after unpacking. I was really upset. Fast forward a full YEAR later, and my girlfriend finds it deep in a crevice of the couch. I'm still dumbfounded by it. The couch was taken apart for the move, on an open trailer and had been cleaned several times in the interim. There it was though, still in the airtite.
Had an 1884 Morgan on a key fob that I lost a few months ago. All I can figure is that the fob broke and the coin slipped off of it. I bought another but a much stronger ring around the coin.
I lost, then recovered my pocket piece a while back. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/sentimental-piece-stolen.261886/ It has since been retired as a pocket piece, though I'll probably start carrying it again at some point.
