Just wondering if anyone has bought this coin yet? I was thinking about it and wanted too see if you all had this and what you thought? Thanks.
That particular coin seems to have a lot of die polish on the non-gorilla side. I don't think this is a coin for me (unless I decide to do a type set of 2015 bullion coins), but it's neat nonetheless.
Paul I took the image from the website as I do not have the coin. I just thought it was kind of cool. BTM
Hi. I don't have the coin, and won't. I don't like it. I'm sure that there are lots of folks that do, though.
Since my kid keeps a topical set of primates on coins, I'll likely snag one if the price isn't too high and I stumble across one. It's not worth seeking out for me though.
Not ALL humans, no. Just some of the "less impressive" ones. If someone at NYINC has one floating around his table, and it's not too expensive, I'll pick one up. I grabbed a U.K. 2016 "Year of the Monkey" 1 oz. silver at Baltimore in November. Those Brits, can't resist jumping the mintage date gun, can they? By the way, this Congo piece answers the burning question I've always wondered about: What do a gorilla's tonsils look like?
Kurt Here is the link in which I found the coin. It is less than $20 so not too bad. BTM http://www.apmex.com/category/28335/silver-congo-coins
Thanks. One of my favorite new series is the 1/2 oz. Australian sharks series. I love the various frostings of the various design elements and the quasi-coloring it creates. Not that sharks need much more than a little brightness modulation.
@BunkerTrapMan , do you know who mints the coin for the Congo? I don't know if they have their own mint. I'm guessing they don't. As for the design, I like both the obverse and the reverse. I think the gorilla is nicely detailed. IMO, there are a lot of bullion pieces with animals on them that look nothing like the real thing. For example, many of the eagle renditions by the Canadian Mint . So to see this piece, I'm quite impressed. I like some of the fine details as well. Like the elephants behind the Congo Shield on the reverse. I'm assuming this is the reverse since the date is on the side with the Gorilla. Anyway, cool piece. Will you share how much you paid for it and where you acquired the piece?
Howdy, look up two post's and you will find the link I provided. I did not buy the coin as stated in my previous post but thought it was cool. It appears that the Scottsdale Mint made the coin for the Congo Republic. BTM
My bad, I totally missed that, thanks. I bought a 2 oz. lion head stacker round from Scottsdale Mint last year. It was well made. The price of this is quite reasonable.
They don't have mints as the diamond mines print enough money for them. *Humorous and glib statement without research*
Ok, I decided to bite the bullet, I just bought 3 of these I know what you will say! Why did I do it? I like Gorillas.
What's not to like....they are our closest relative after the chimpanzee. It's like having your mother-in-law on a coin.
