Just wondering what the majority of you silver investor and collector types save up on for the big payday? I collect mostly junk silver and ASE's, but I don't have much of either, I mean I'm not rich like some of y'all. wof.gif Some collectors, stack up on Engelhards, Maple Leafs, Libertads, ASE's and even Zom Bucks, oh and antique Silver Bars as well. So what floats your boat, or in this case what satisfies your Silver collecting habit? icon_mrgreen.gif Anyone?

I tend to pursue more numismatic type items - I'm not a diehard stacker - but that said I do like circulated common date Morgans. Yeah, one does have to pay a premium over ASW, but if it is uncleaned and I can see the complete outline of Liberty's eye (and priced right) it is hard to walk away from. I just keep them in tubes. So that's what floats my boat.

A variety (among modern coins). In no particular order: American Silver Eagles, Mexico Silver Libertads, Silver Britannias, 1.25 oz Silver Canadian Bison, Silver Chinese Pandas, Silver Somali Elephants. For each current year, I favor (3) BUs of each + (2) MS70 graded coins. But if the proof version coins is really spectacular, (so aren't so great), I will try to add (2) PF70s. I like have multiples - so I can sell one if I'm every so inclined, but then have a 'spare' to hold on to. Of course, I'm also going back a few years to follow this collecting pattern, but of course finding them is a bit more expensive and some of the 70 coins are hard to find. Also, some moderns have limited mintages sub-sets (e.g. 2015 Silver Britannia 'Plain Fields' - mintage on 10K) or the limited Somali Elephant 'privy' coins (3-5K each BU).
And I also like matching fractional sets of some of the above current coins if they exist as proofs or high mint state . Fractionals are lower mintage, in general, so they appear to me. I got my hands on a Mexico Libertad proof/reverse proof (first ever reverse for Mexico) which very low mintage.
Among older coins, I'm favoring 50c Capped Busts and some BU Morgans. But everyone collects Morgans, so the 'lustre' isn't there - why collect what everyone is collecting?

Whatever I can find a steal of deal on when I'm in a buying mood. But I hate generic crap only semi-numi stuff like pucks, provident elemental 2oz'ers, ase's, etc etc... you just can't beat 5oz pucks right now especially for early presale prices of $90 +/- per when average ebay sales are $110-130 per :)

    1965-1970 40% Kennedy Halves
    1971-1976 40% Eisenhower Dollars
    1976 40% Bicentennial Quarters
    1976 40% Bicentennial Halves

For some reason people think 40% coins are tainted or something, but for the measurable amount of silver vs cost, it's the best bang for the buck. Also, the bicentennial coins have numismatic potential being a unique one year/date design.

I enjoy large format Perth products, mostly the 10oz variety. Big silly coins entertain me for some reason. :D

90% junk silver, mainly halves and quarters. If I find peace or morgans for a great price, i will buy them otherwise I think they are overpriced. Also i buy 10oz'ers all the time. The cheaper the silver the better! After all its just a chunk of metal!

I always favored U.S. 90% pre-1965 coinage for the simple reason that it is easily recognized. Over the past ten to twenty years ASE have found their way into my stash. The downside is the weight, so over the last several years I have been working on a Seated Liberty half collection, most of which are AG to G. condition. Except for the scarce dates they are not terribly expensive, and satisfy my desire for the shiny.

Same boat here. I bought some foreign gold coins this weekend and some jewelry - all at auction. I will say this - I have never seen so many people so interested in buying gold. Usually I'm the guy that walks away with most of it - especially when bad weather keeps most folks home. This time I think I got less than half. Maybe it's Christmas buyers, but I saw things go way over what they should have.

A few pieces will go in for repair, a few will go up for sale once tested and identified. The gold coins go into the deposit box for the future.

I've been collecting only the US mint products for over 30 yrs now, mostly ASE all versions, AGE proofs mostly even though I still buy the bullion sometimes, APE bullion and the ATB 5 oz pucks.
