i think investing silver is far better than gold coin. look at the recent 2006 3 pc am. eagle gold and silver set. these coins composed of proof, uncirculated and reverse proof.

    2006 3-pc am eagle silver set. cost-$100.00 now-$595.00 up-495%

    2006 3-pc am eagle gold set. cost-$2,610.00 now-$5570.00 up-113%

additional: 2006 w unc am eagle silver. cost19.95 now-$149.95 up-652% (this one even better)

I personally like the silvers more. They are affordable on more people's budget over the gold.

Percentage wise yes, but dollar wise you made $2465 more per gold set. Either way I think both were great investments.

The silver sets on a return on investment with a 10K investment is a far and away a better return. I do like the look of the gold sets but , silver can look real fine with that type of return . Two turns for gold and six for silver.

you can use $2610.00 for one set gold to buy 26 set of silver. thus it will become $15,470.00 instead of $5,570.00.

Oh yes the silver has done better percentage wise than the gold but I am not sure very many people thought the Silver anniversary sets would be doing what they are doing right now. Think in a lot of ways the Gold anniversary set has been over shadowed by the Silver sets to this point. There seems to be nice supply of the silver anniversary Set available for sale and a lesser supply of the Gold anniversary set. What I believe will be interesting is to see what happens to these sets when the ones that are available , both gold and silver, gets into the hands of collectors who are not interesting in selling them at most any price.

would be happy to take the percentage return on the gold anniversary set any day of the week. Gosh if only we knew what we know now at the start of last summer.

i got 30 3-pc 2006 silver set. i missed 3-pc gold set and single unc w silver. originally planned 99 pc or more of unc single silver but cancelled it. instead i ordered 2006 w unc gold. 2 set 4 pc. 30 pc 1/2 oz, 60 pc 1/4 oz. but my ordered for 50 pc 1/10 oz was cancelled by the mint due to accounting error or sold out. others product bought from the mint during 2006 are 20 set silver proof set. (it is a mistaked). 60 pc b. franklin unc dollars. (mistaked again, didn't sell it earlier at good price).

bought from the dealers are many rolls of state quarters and westward nickels. ike circulated dollars - 200 pc. (xf to au). 200 or more set of 5 pc silver state quarters and clad state quarters at a bargain price. that's about it for 2006.

2007, i didn't buy anything. but i change 1000 pc of pres. washington unc dollar (P) from the bank. no plan to further invest in 2007. i might use some of the prez dollars. i don't see any good investment for 2007.

I think that this is spot on!!! (Pardon the pun) The biggest part of supply and demand in this case is demand. Silver is more within the reach of the masses pricewise, so it is therefore demanded by more people even in slow economies, thus driving prices up higher as a percentage of the original price.

This ends my little econ rant... I'll sit down now... over there ------->

Wheats are going to do something in 09, as is the 2007 Prez dollar proof set later on, and the proofs of the state quarters are going to really go up after 2008. All a guess, and a feeling.

I thought they had a mint limit on these when they were selling. Anyway you have taken the two best performing sets and made this comparision, but if you look at the gold vs. silver commemoratives I think gold has done better there so it is the opposite.

Look at the 1997 Jackie Robinson UNC gold vs. the 1996 Wheelchair silver UNC coin and I think gold beat silver in that series.

Also I think the silver set had two key coins last year while the gold set only had one and I think that is some of the difference there. If the gold set had lower mintages on two coins it might have made this a better comparison. Anyway they both did great so no one can complain, the question is what about this year?

What silver coin is going to do better than gold?

talking about other metals. 2007 littlerock bronze coin (25,000) can also go up. isn't it?.

If that is the 1 1/2 inch medal then it is also offered separately so no actual mint limit if I see this correctly.
