I did not say anything in that post that was tongue-in-cheek. What I said I believed, I do believe and for the reasons stated.

The aesthetic value I find in silver is my value. I don't expect anyone else to believe as I do. It's much like art. I don't care how much of a genius someone thinks Jackson Pollock was, I wouldn't pay 29 cents for that crap-unless I could flip it without looking at it.

I do agree with you that there is a big measure of belief or faith in stackers. Is that different from "This (pick a place any place) area is special that's why the values will keep going up."

Is the faith stackers have so different from the faith you have in the stockmarket? The Dow was down 285 points when I last looked. You can say it will recover. You can say the Dow always recovers. You can prove it with stats too. But you will still be predicting the future and that is faith.

What would the USD be without faith in our military, productive capacity, ability to innovate and our undying belief that the same fate Rome and England happened upon will be too scared of us and just go around. I can hear it now: "'cuse me captains, mind if go around you here, please don't sic the unicorns of death on me .."

It's hard to think of anything that doesn't involve faith/belief directly or indirectly.

Then is there any gold in FT. KNOX or not? The government will tell you that almost 5,000 metric tons of gold, is in vaults there. others say its totally empty. When is the last time it was officially inspected?

Listen to the former Congressman and Senator "Baby Daddy" and you'll get all the fantasy stories you'll need to fill a lifetime. Edited: politics still hasn't responded to my deal offer. He stops being an amateur economist, and I'll stop being an amateur .

I think there was a highly publicized media tour in the 1960s or 70s with video of them inspecting the vaults and walking through it but nothing since I believe. As for internal inspections, who knows.

Mikem. Yes I agree that newborn babies are not programmed for gold (I think it's what suckling, fear of falling and one more "born" instinct I can't remember off the top) but very close to it. Yes, it's a learned behavior or lust but one that is ingrained in everything it is to be human due to a few millenia of how we have treated it. So yes, a learned behavior, but as close to instinct and any non instinctual behavior can be. Let's call us both correct

Somehow I was absent that day. Or maybe a formal economics education erased it. Yeah, I bet that's it.

Mary Brooks had her picture taken as she looked inside one of the vaults in 1974.

Edmund Moy says he's personally seen it at Fort Knox. I believe him. Seems a simple 24/7/365 webcam aimed at the door would be small enough expense to dispense with this bat droppings crazy paranoia.

That was a private gold fund. I'm tellin' ya'! They need to go with hollow plated osmium. Denser than gold or platinum. No way to detect on specific gravity. See? Join the osmium cartel today!

I wasn't saying that there needs to be a fixed gold standard, I was just baffled at the hate for gold. We should be lucky there is something that cannot be manipulated by a hegemony that has value. Think about it, paper currency is on it's way out too. There is no real need for it. So then everything is in "the cloud". All accounts are virtual, all money exchanged is virtual. There is nothing tangible at all to even account for. At the very least gold is something. It never breaks down, and it can't be duplicated. It is called a precious metal for a reason, not just because it's "shiny". You can make the same argument for diamonds, the prices which are ironically also manipulated. There is nothing inherently purposeful in a diamond, but it's inherent qualities (and de beers monopoly) make it valuable.

Right now I'm speculating where you get your facts from. The US has THE largest reserve. All you have to do is read a Wikipedia page:

A gold reserve is the gold held by a national central bank, intended as a store of value and as a guarantee to redeem promises to pay depositors, note holders (e.g. paper money), or trading peers, or to secure a currency.

fiat currency is as real as fairies and ghosts and shadow people, your arguments don't make any sense. What gives fiat currency value? The same thing that gives gold value. You are really talking out of both sides of your mouth.
