How do you spot the best gold dealer to trust your money with? What are the sings that you keep looking for in order to find a trusted gold dealer? What makes you freak over choosing one?
My mother told me as a child, "Don't believe everything you see on T.V." and this is just as applicable to the internet. If someone I trust suggests something I listen because I trust them.
I trust JM Bullion for any PM any Time for Online, all local dealers where I live will not sell PMs even close to a fair price. Fast Shipping no problems. Helpful folks.
Thanks folks for these answers,I see it's all about trust and advice from people you know, but what if you know no one to trust, what will you be doing then?
Ebay has reputable sellers - including several of the names mentioned here (JM, Silvertowne, Apmex, etc). Remember that it isn't "Ebay" selling it, they are just the platform. You do pay the "credit card price" which is generally a couple percent higher than cash - but for some it's an easier option. I got lucky and was able to buy 2oz of bullion from Apmex and leverage the "Ebay Bucks" and my credit card cash back - so I got 4% cash back by paying the 2.5% credit card premium a few weeks ago. Bars delivered at total cost of $1080 per oz - delivered to my door from Apmex. It was a rare time when the stars aligned for the purchase. Normally bullion doesn't get the Ebay Bucks rebate (pre-33 gold usually does), not sure if Apmex listed in the wrong category or what - but I took advantage. But you should understand the system and know how it works before trusting it.
Yeah, they do, but, quoted prices tend to be for minimum transaction amounts. Check out their website. Provident Metals also buys back and I think their minimums for quoted price are lower...
A good gold dealer gives you real gold for your money at reasonable premiums and will buy the gold back at a reasonable price. I think buying back is the biggest part and I've heard quite a few people on this forum advocate that anyone collecting numismatics actually not only just buy but sell a few coins here and there to get a feel for what the process is like. I think that also applies to anyone simply stacking bullion. In fact I often think that many of the silver is silver, gold is gold minded stackers have never tried to sell any of that generic bullion or scrap that they advocate buying because the premiums are lowest. Learning to sell is an important part of not only the numismatic hobby but for stackers as well as it can help you develop a good relationship with a dealer but also provide realistic expectations for liquidating. I've been in my local shop a few times where people not only come in and expect to buy ASE, AGE and 90% junk at spot prices and it's funny listening to the dealer explain why they don't sell at spot prices. The same goes for people selling generic bullion who expect to get spot price for it in return or more when generally that simply doesn't occur.
I've also found some bullion that are eligible for Ebay bucks and there is usually always some available if you search enough. I've also found quite a few sellers (usually individuals versus big name dealers) who if you send them a message that you want to buy an item they are selling say an AGE or other bullion coins that actually technically are legal tender. That they will remove the items from the bullion category if you tell them why so you can then purchase the item and receive the Ebay bucks.
