Generally speaking, we all know and acknowledge that anything other than PCGS/NGC is going to have a pretty unreliable grade (and even the big two are constantly up for debate). But as you yourself said, the point of this thread wasn't to discuss HOW these other TPGs grade, as there are plenty of those already ... It's to see how many different wacky ones are out there.
True, but I have seen many accurately graded coins in these whacky slabs and picked up some really great deals because so many simply discounted the slabber. Okay, back to the topic.
Cool idea for a thread Amanda! I've got a few from some backyard slabbers. I think there was an explosion of these type of underground slabbers in the 1980s. Truth is, you can actually still find some decent coins in these slabs if you know how to grade.
I find gems in old ANACS holders as well as other off the wall slabs. When I walk a show I will scout out the off the wall and ANACS slabs. There gold in them, variety coins over looked, or not attributed . Plus people do collect then as we see from this thread. Thus even a dud can be a home run if someone wants it bad enough .
Of all the things ... If you MUST know, I've had colored french tips forever. They're pretty much my thing. @statequarterguy - Love it! @RaceBannon - That's another I've not seen before. I love the ones with obv/rev grades.
That's Doctor Fransisco to you........ [Where the devil did that come from?] And uncurculted is my religion......you got a problem with that Lady?
https://www.cointalk.com/threads/po...-strange-tpg-slabs.243787/page-4#post-2152605 I like these threads. Linking them together.
I just likes these threads. I had a Morgan dollar in an APEX slab once but cracked it out. I haven't seen that one shown here yet.
That reminds me, got this Kennedy off eBay for $20 - turns out it's a whole lot more frosty than the pic and it's an AH. If it crosses over to a PR68 DCAM, it's worth somewhere around $9,000. I know, I know the pic doesn't show it, but it is a lot more frosty, looks like one of the first off the die.
LOL! Frosty the Eskimo, huh. I'll tell you, if it crosses over, I'm going to be singing Frosty the Snowman, because it's going to be like Christmas. Heck, I'd be happy with a $500 MS67 CAM.
