Why does the Sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore? Don't they know, it's the end of the world, 'cause you don't love this nickel, anymore? I don't know why, Rosa. Really. It looks like it's kind of corroded.

It's just the way the nickel tarnished . It could have been on the ground for awhile or maybe through a washing machine . I've seen some pretty colorful ones though .

In that condition they're not worth much . But are you collecting Lincolns as an area of interest ? I collect any pre '82 cent just because they're mostly copper . Not that they'll ever be worth anything . I guess I just like them because it's real and not this zincoid junk they make today .

Those cents can be found in change. Nothing special there. The nickel looks like it was thrown in some ashes or a fire. Just spend it

Having worked in the medical field years ago...I will tell you that stomach acid will turn a nickel dark...just another guess that it made the trip through a human digestive system .

Rosa, those look good. Ah, the second one is scratched, and they're worth only a couple or three cents, but so what? Somebody thought they were important enough to save, right? Well, there you go. ;)

What might of caught your father's attention on this Cent is that it looks to be a MAD Cent. That means Misaligned Die. See how the right side is thicker than the left? It is a common occurrence in Cents from the early 70's. Not a huge error but it is an error.

And the Nickel. Just environmental damage. I metal detect also and the Nickels tend to change color underground easily. :wideyed:
