Why are Gold Eagles same price as .999 bullion?

Gold Eagles have a .9167 gold purity.
Other gold bullion is .999 (Maple Leafs etc.).

Gold Eagles worth more, or same.

    Why is that?

Same 1 oz. of gold in each, purity and color are what is different.

Because the US Mint isn't regulated by the Royal Canadian or any other mint.

Gold eagles are less pure but more durable with the added copper but still has 1 oz of gold...the coin weighs more than a gold maple.

There is more demand for Eagles than Maples.

More demand for US mint products, plus they both have 1 ounce net gold. If you weigh an eagle they will weigh more.

In the US, only gold eagles are eligible to be put into an IRA program. That and the homer mentality of many US collectors leads to much higher demand for eagles. Plus, the maple leaf has that fugly image of Winston Churchill on the obverse.

I did not know that regardless of purity, there was still the same amount of gold. It should be obvious, i know.

Yeah, decades ago some of the Double Eagles and other Eagles were 90% gold, 10% copper.

But they all have 1 oz. of gold.

Kruggerands and AGEs are 22 karat (0.9167). Maple Leaf, Buffalo, and Panda are 24 karat (0.999).

Btw, I kid our friends from Britain and British colonies. I simply dislike the same pic over and over of some old lady taking up one whole side of a coin. I actually like British and Canadian coins, only wishing they were actually two sided. Yes, I also hate all of our dead president coins. I wish mints everywhere had the freedom and creativity to make two beautiful sides of a coin, and vary these designs periodically. Just my preference though, and I hope I do not offend any Commonwealth members here with my jokes.

I agree medoraman, it makes the coins undesirable to me, especially since I abhor "royalty".

No, the pre-1934 double eagles never had an ounce of gold. They were based on a standard that pegged gold at $20.67 per ounce, so they held slightly less than an ounce (0.9675 ozt). The smaller gold denominations were based on the same proportion.

Right, I meant today's 1 ounce coins did...back then, they had $20 worth of gold.

    0.9675 oz. X $20.67 = ~ $20 (a double eagle)...actually, $19.998 :D

Gotta agree. Unfortunately for the Countries under the UK, they always gotta show the Queen. Can't they make her smaller, like place her on the edge of the coin?!. scooter.gif Especially like on one of my favorites, this 1997 Queen and the Lion. She's already on one side with the Lion, they should be enough in my book. tmoney.gif $(KGrHqIOKpcE5k7N7jBDBOc!T-tpv!~~60_3.jpg $(KGrHqMOKiME5d-BywOtBOc!UE3qJQ~~60_3.jpg $(KGrHqMOKpQE5U-snNn7BOc!T+qCng~~60_3.jpg
