I'm wondering if there's a graph that charts the change in price of a given US (and/or world) coin over time. I'm sure for silver and gold coins, it correlates with the market fluctuations of silver and gold prices. But what are these numismatic values over time, and how are these numismatic values affected by (or despite) the changing silver and gold prices when you factor in other variables? Basically, a graphic chart with the change in numismatic values over time would answer this directly with easy visualization. I'm sure the data is already there and perhaps some keen individual took it upon oneself to graph this already, maybe even across several condition grades. Thanks in advance.
Is there a website that shows these graphs? I've looked and all I can find are current numismatic prices across various grades in numerically written out chart form (e.g. numismedia.com). Along with a graphic, plotted chart form, is there one with, say, 1 year intervals? EDIT: I do see a chart on Numismedia.com, but those only seem to go as far back as year-to-date or a couple of years, as opposed to showing the full historical price fluctuations. For example: http://www.numismedia.com/cgi-bin/c...&nmcode=15511700&guide=prices&guide2=pricesms
Each coin in each grade has a chart like you mention on the NGC price guide. It goes back a few years, but maybe not as far back as you want.
This is not for individual coins - http://www.pcgs.com/prices/frame.aspx?type=coinindex&filename=index - but it can show you performance over 40 years for the market as a whole and for specific indexes of the market. (click on the links under the graph on that page to see the other indexes)
@GDJMSP: Thank you, that pcgs link helps! @physics-fan3.14: I also dug deeper with ncgscoin.com and they go back with ALL data, too! I just needed to click on the specific price under a condition grade, and that takes me to the graph where I can select to look at years back to 2005 (I think since the site's inception, maybe?). http://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/...-44/1964-50c-ms-vf-price-history-coinid-16706
From what I've seen in search results, it seems that US coins have a lot of data to produce nice graphs. However, I can't seem to find graphs for coins from other countries like for UK coins. I see data but nothing like what you'd see on PCGS or NGC, and definitely no graphs from what I can tell. Does anyone know?
Yeah, the NGC data goes back about 10 years. I'm not aware of anything similar for foreign coins. I've tried to find some, because I also collect British shillings, but hadn't seen much.
Yes, the PCGS Price Guide tab. Click on the value in the year/grade column and it will pull up a chart that you can customize and add to also. Here is the 1909S VDB in XF40 10yr chart if it links right http://www.pcgs.com/pricehistory#/?=2426-40
