Electrorefining of copper yields significant quantities of Platinum, along with other metals such as silver, gold selenium and tellurium. I think this is the main source of platinum, rather than mining. Anyway.. the prices went up quite a bit after 2000.
That means a lot of mining of the earth. Don't you think this is a little much compared to the benefits of the metal? I am not sure this is worth it?
Very interesting fact you posted Ginger. I personally had no idea it'd take that much ore to produce just an ounce of platinum. It doesn't completely surprise me either though. At times, it does seem questionable as to how metal businesses could even process a profit through all this. But as Peter has said, if there was no profit being made, there would not be people doing this. Either that, or we would see the price of platinum jump ridiculously again.
Thanks you very much for your comments! I do personally encourage people to take up things in rightway.
