Are The Coins Advertised In Magazines Worth Anything?

My dad has collected gold coins that you see advertised in magazines and newspapers. He has collected entire collections and he thinks they will be worth a lot of money. Is he right?

For instance London Mint sold a collection of every British coin in gold (roughly about £40 for each coin).

    Does anyone know? :)

Well, they'd be worth whatever weight of the gold in the coin is at the market rate of gold.

Thank you for the quick reply, Peter. :)

I know it sounded like a very newbie type question but I have always believed in asking if I don't know the answer to something. :)

Coins are costing more than their intrinsic value. As such as an investment it is always a losing proposition.

Thank for both for the replies.

I personally think he will have more enjoyment out of looking at them than money by selling them. :)

Gold in any form has a good value and it is always related to the market price.
