Nor me but I have got about 10 rubies in my gem collection and think they look good. Not sure on investment purposes but they may be worth something.

I love rubies. I have a few ruby rings and they do make a nice investment.

I dont think Ruby is still a good metal if we talk in terms of investments. Ruby is of course, but, a good gem collection.

You have 20K invested in a semi precious gemstone like Ruby? I think that is a bit too much of a risk. Semi-precious gemstones like Amethyst, Ruby and Topaz are extremely volatile compared to their more expensive cousins like Diamonds and Emeralds. Never had one, and not thinking about buying one.

All I have is a few uncut and unpolished rubys. Don't know their value nor if they have one, but holding onto them nonetheless.

How did you get them? It won't be a bad idea to go to a gemstone dealer to get a clear idea about their net worth. No need to sell them, but it will be good if you could find the value of your investments.

Also, there is nothing bad in cutting and polishing rubies. A cut and polished one is worth much more than the raw uncut ones.

Me and my wife found them in the mountains on our honeymoon. We took them tojeweler who said they'd cut them for a few hundred bucks but didn't give us an appraisal. I figured I'd hold on to them, but didn't want to pay to get them cut. I'll have to look into it, especially if they're worth something.

Ruby's are really not a good investment at all. tHey have no history to holding up in a major financial collapse at all. They will most likely go down in its value because it is jewelry and that is a big luxury most people do not have in a recession or financial crisis. Most people would have a very hard time even keeping food on the table for there family.

I've heard you can buy the stones that contain gems like rubies on the cheap, and you can make a killing off it if you know how to correctly cut them. Has anyone heard anything about this or know any more information regarding to something like this?

For market value, just like other gemstones, ruby is not that expensive compared to other minerals even with its radiant color. Who will buy gemstones if it is expensive, anyway? They need to balance the prices so people can afford it.
