Canada losing the penny?

The senators want production of the penny to stop as soon as practicable and then give Canadians 12 months notice that the coins will stop being considered legal tender.

That means it will be time to cash in the contents of those jars of pennies you have been filing for years, repeatedly telling yourself that one day you will roll them into nice neat stacks and cart them to the bank to claim your one-cent windfall.

But I say we should pity the penny. It’s a coin that has served us well for the last 143 years.

I hate to see it go, but there is a time for change, and unfortunately, we have met it. I would prefer to see prices corrected worldwide so less money has to be printed to start out with. What happened to those 5 cent cokes? The should be a re-valuation of currency worldwide to help bring prices, and costs to mint money down.
