Rare in any grade, this NGC MS 65 Augustus Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20.00 Gold piece is considered to be one of the most beautiful coins ever minted by the U.S. Government. In 1907, under heavy criticism from foreign dignitaries, President Roosevelt commissioned famous Italian Sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to make the new U.S. coinage. There are very few high relief $20.00 gold pieces known today. The relief of the 1907 is much higher than later date issues, making the coins impossible for bankers to stack at the time of issue. The Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20.00 gold coin is a prize piece of American Numismatic history.
