Some homes worth less than their copper pipes.Thieves smashed the window to break in and then gutted the property for its copper pipes -- a crime that has spread across the United States as the economy slows and foreclosed homes stand empty and vulnerable. But i have no idea.
I saw an old style chandelier made from copper its like 50 years old chandelier. Its big and heavy! Thieves will find hard to steal it up in the ceiling
Do you think the homeowner could be the thief to get the insurance money, or the foreclosed owner could be the thief when its no longer his home or am I just being cynical?
Thats news to me seriously lol i didnt know about it , houses having worth lower then the copper pipes installed sounds weird lol
The day my mother signed the papers for a house she bought last year, the house was broken into and all the pipes and wiring were ripped out of the house. I say it was an inside job (seller) but the house had been empty for a few years too. Who knows.
I think the insurance fraud thing might be specific to the USA, but I have heard about houses being ransacked for the copper in the wires and pipes going on in Europe too. I'm sure wherever copper is used in housing that this type of theft will be a growing problem.
