Does anyone here collect Talers?

These are very much my core collection given the history and design yet I seldom see any posts with Talers... any thoughts why? A sampling from my collection.

Gorgeous coins Zohar -- but I'm with Galen59. They are too expensive in conditions that I would want to collect. I guess we just have to look at yours instead. ;)

Those are some incredible toners. I do like thalers/talers (what's not to like about a big silver coin?) but in many cases I feel like the designs are a bit too busy.

This is the first time I've heard of them. World coins isn't my area of numismatic study. I like some of the designs though. what country are thy from? about how much do this cost?

Thank you guys and credit to brg5658 for his photography on many of these.

Lots of information on my website www.taleruniverse.com. They are expensive in the higher grades, yet far less in the XF-AU range which is where I had started. A decent 17th century piece can cost $200-400. If anyone ever needs any guidance/advise, please feel free to reach out.

The very first book I borrowed from
the A.N.A was about City and Church
    Thalers. Historically, culturally, artistically, I don't think there's a U.S
coin that can match Thalers. But they were too expensive for me in 1981 and I suspect they still are.

I guessing there may be more resistance in world coins once they reach a certain price. Not because they are inferior but because there is more choice. There's always something else to drool over with world coins.

Those are some beautiful coins you have. :)

Your coins are gorgeous and I enjoy seeing them but don't intend to collect them. If I had endless money I might branch out into those but for now my funds go to ancients.

They are beautiful and the craftsmanship is superb. But I'm with Tiff, ancients are my thing too. Thanks for posting though.

When compared to US common coin (Morgan Dollar, Bust Half etc) pricing on a relative basis, these are dirt cheap. Very easy spending thousands of dollars on readily available US coins while a scarce Taler is priced far lower and is much more attractive in design IMHO.

Really? Huh, where can I get my hands on one?
Oh and what's the difference between Thaler a Taler?

Otherwise they are too expensive to pick up on a whim, but if I see one that is close to melt, I would pick it up.

Anywhere on Ebay or Vcoins. I have a few dupes as well.

Taler and Thaler are used interchangeably - however, the tendency I see is using Taler for 18th century or earlier material, and Thaler for 19th century and beyond.

    Hello Zohar,

Nice Talers.:) After viewing one of your earlier posts, I wanted an example of Leopold (hogmouth) and got this coin. NGC AU58 1665KB Leopold 1/2 T.
    Hungary 1665 Leopold Half Thaler.jpg
However, I believe that 60 Kreuzers amounts to one Taler. Therefore, the 15K noted on my coin would make it a 1/4 Taler (not ½ T as indicated on the slab).
