error question..... 1978 quarter silver rare? error? anything?

    I'm laughing because it took us two pages to figure out to tell you to look at the edge, lol. But, yes, it looks like the copper-clad one. The thing about these transitional ones is that one of the silver planchets from the year before got mixed in with the copper-clad ones being struck in the year after. In other words, a 1964 silver planchet got mixed in with the 1965 copper-clad planchets. Thus, when you see a 1978 coin, you have to think, that's quite a long time for a 1964 silver planchet to have been hanging around without having been struck. And, that's why a 1978 silver coin would have been a real mind-blower of a find. Hope that makes some sense.

    I found s similar one that looks and feels as if it has silver in it. It’s different than a normal quarter for sure.

    So glad I read this. I have the same quarter and for the past 3 days I've told friends to compare it to other quarters as it does sound silver.
