If you're talking about the bullion version then I like getting them raw and holding them for a few minutes. With gloves of course Once I get my fix I put the coin in an air-tite holder
I decided against the slab idea for now. I've got some other great ideas for my store now. I will offer each coin with mint packaging, airtites, or just raw. Is there any other method of coin casing that you guys like? perhaps a small 2x2?
No elaboration is necessary; we've been through this before. Good idea. How many ASEs have you seen fit into a "small 2x2"? As for your other great ideas, don't worry about little gimmicks or different types of holders you can offer bullion in, and instead focus on covering the basics. With all due respect, it seems as if you're (again) getting ahead of yourself.
If I buy a special ASE it will come in a holder . When I buy bullion ASEs the usually come with a holder too , but if they don't they go in a little manilla envelope , after all they are just bullion . As for a grading company , think about how hard it is to remain consistent and accurate . There's a big difference in price for a lot of coins say between VF-20 to 25 then to 30 and 35 . Can you accurately and consistently grade every US coin in any grade ? Also look how hard it is to keep the top graders .
You posted this question in the BULLION INVESTING forum, so I am presuming you are an investor, but for clarity I am going to ask the following: Is your silver purchase simply an investment? Or are you buying the ASE as a "coin collector" for numismatic enjoyment (and possible return due to appreciation on the grade of the coin). In my mind they are two different things. When I buy bullion as an investment, I buy raw ASEs and then put them in the safe ( and rarely, if ever, look at them). When I buy coins as a collector, I look at mintage numbers, current demand, grading and eye appeal of the coin, etc. If you try to mix the two and buy silver coins as a coin collector (and lets say have them slabbed/graded by a TPG), but then also try to consider them a "silver" investment, it probably wont work well. At least it hasn't for me. Decide why you want to buy silver and that should help you decide what to buy. If you are buying silver solely as an investment, don't pay a premium for niceties - get as much silver as you can for the least amount of money. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
+1. I buy buy the tube and place them in the safe. Mix ASE's, Maples, Philharmonics, Brittanias, and US "junk" silver.
The few "slabbed" ASE's that I have purchased were promptly removed from the slabs and either put into my Dansco or my safe.
I only buy the Standard raw BU. I like to feel it in my palm, I like to twirl it between my finger, smell it, flip the coin in the air like an NFL referee before the game.
I agree, buy them raw then put them into air-tights or tubes. When buying standard Silver Eagles I like them to look as nice as possable, not all scratched and banged up !
