Hey guys, I recently emerged out of a "dark age" and decided to get back into coins again. Sports, high school drama, etc...got me occupied for a bid. Any way, I was sorting through my bullion and found that this particular coin was tinted by a orange-ish tint? Should I let it be, or would such an imperfection devalue the coin? If so, what can I do to prevent this from happening to my other maples? Thanks
Tough to tell in the photos, but probably just a bit of tarnish by being exposed to the air. If you want to limit tarnish/toning, I would suggest you buy Air Tite holders for your coins. http://www.air-tites.com/ Holder type H-38 for Maple Leafs If you are keeping maple leafs for numismatic reasons, and want them to look like the day they were minted, buy the Air Tites. If you own bullion just as an investment, then it may not make sense to spend $$ on the holders - your maple leaf will still be worth an ounce of silver, even with tarnish/toning. Either way, I would caution you against attempting to "clean" your coins.
Oh for the love of God, don't clean it. If you do it is only bullion...if you don't it is bullion. Actually if you do decide to clean it, just try a commercial dip and do it lightly. You can always do it again, but you can never un-do it. BTW if you decide to dip it, rinse it well and put it into an airtite or something simiilar.
